New product - may be of interest to DBHF folks

Already discussed with Chuck and he said OK to pass along.

I was recently at an event (Edison Awards) where new products are showcased. One product that won a silver award was called the "SureCan". I have not see this before but found it interesting. It is a new kid of gas can that solves some of the headaches when refueling stuff. I have not used it but there were quite a few testimonials from people who thought it was the best thing since canned beer. I have no affiliation with the company nor product in any way, just passing along a deal offered to others at this event.

If you like what you see, here is a way to get 40% off the normal price (don't know if this is a deal but it is what it is).

1. Go to the site above
2. Click on the Edison Award radio button in the upper right hand corner
3. Type in password (Edison2016)
4. Place order.

I like this product as I can see it saving me some frustration of filling up the gas tank on hot motors such as lawnmowers, snowblowers, yard tools, chainsaws, etc...

Looks interesting for sure especially with all the fuss about plastic gas cans/ tanks being outlawed because of vapors (?) passing through the plastic and causing global warming or some such B.S. These guys must be recycling better old milk cartons. heehee. Seriously looks like a better mousetrap

As a guy who has spent nearly 30 years cleaning up contamination from leaking fuel tanks, I know that any low point in a fuel storage system is going to eventually fail. Swivel joints are notorious for spewing fuel, and need constant maintenance. It's just the way petroleum functions.

The FAQ states that there are two o-rings on the elbow joint and viton seals on the valve. That is a good start. They will offer replacement parts later this year. I would keep extra seals on hand.

The thing I don't like about this is that as a short dude I'd have to lift this can up even higher than I lift my NO-SPILL can.

I absolutely can't stand my current gas can since I think it makes me spill more fuel with all of it's "safety features" than if it didn't have any. I have ordered two (one for a buddy) and will let you know how they work out. Thanks for the info.

I also ordered a small one. I needed to update my "plastic" cans and hated the way the "no spill" new ones looked and functioned. I didn't find anyone that had one who really liked it. This looks like the best option? I'd like to think that the concerns for the seals on the swivel nozzle are minimal for the casual user like me...might be more of a concern for a commercial/constant use situation.

Anyway, I'll also report back on what I think.

I saw those at Lowes the other day. $44.97 per can. wowzers.

Looks like their 1/2 price online, but what is the shipping cost on a 5 gallon?

Let us know what you think of it in a year. I will be curious to see if the swivel joint holds up and doesn't leak.

I took the cheap way out and bought a replacement nozzle and vent kit at Tractor Supply. The kit converts the rocket science cans into good old fashioned cans that function normally and spill less.

Looking at the swivel joint makes me wonder about longevity. A one year warranty is nothing when paying the kind of money they are asking. Put a five year warranty on the joint and ok maybe I would try if needed a new can.

How do gas station pump nozzles not wear out? These are basically swivels. I bet, but don't know, that they aren't replacing seals and what not on those things all the time. Should have designed it similar to this if they didn't. I mean those get used hundreds of times/week.

Well I have 2 years on my small can and still functions as advertised and no leaks.

Had to start mowing the grass last week so filled up the can after setting empty for the last 4 months.

How’s everyone else getting along with their cans of this variety.

I've taken to using a siphon, which avoids the need to pour and I only spill if I am dumb and overfill the tank--which happens just as often if I am filling from a can.

My little 3.5 HP motor is the worst. The integral tank only holds about a quart of gas, so it's easy to overfill AND it runs out of fuel a lot.

These look interesting.

Apparently you guys already used up all the deals, because I don't see the Edison Award promo any more.

One thought--if you put a second handle on the tank, so your could store and carry it with the pour point high, but tip it 90 degrees to dispense with the pour point low, a lot of the risk of a failure would go away. I have a small 2 gallon can that allows for that.

Sorry Jeff. This thread is 2 years old so that deal is gone. I had stated back in April 2016 that I’d report on my use as it was suggested that the design might be prone to failure. When I filled up my gas can in preparation to my lawn mowing season last week I remembered that statement. My can is working as advertised and just wondered if the guys that also bought in 2016 had similar experiance. I see the cans are available locally now but they are spendy for sure. Hope to hear if they are working out for the other consumers.

:) ya I know.

I posted on a thread on another forum that’s was 4+ years old without seeing the date. Oh well I’m the guy that brought this 2 year old thread back so “I’m bad” not your problem.

Just was wondering how these spendy gas cans were holding up before I spend the $$ for another.

I'm more mad that you are mowing your lawn. Last of the snow in my yard will go tomorrow when the forecast is for 70 degrees.
