New Remington automatic ? and an apology.

Anyone shooting the new Remington auto (105 I think) .
Handled one the other week at the store and liked the way it came to my shoulder and the weight of the gun.

Hope the reports are good as I really liked most everything I saw about it.

I am interested as well. I'm a southpaw, so the idea of the shells going down instead of out the side sounds good to me.
I shoot an 11-87 and it has only broke once in 15 years, so I can't complain.
It looks like a nice gun!

I've heard/read negative reports.

I'd wait a few more years and see if the gun makes it, then buy new, not used.

I bought a 3.5" Gold Hunter when they first came out and was very disappointed in it. I understand Browning got the bugs worked out and now they are just fine.

Hi Nick. If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of negative reports have you heard about the new Remington? I was thinking that would make a neat gun for my recoil shy son.

I heard nothing but bad news on this shotgun.. Most of the guys that bleed green and wanted this shotgun real bad ended up returning it back and wanting there money back.. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere or wait till they get the bugs out.. This gun was supposed to be the next best thing since icecream but it left alot of rem fans cold...

guess I'll start looking for a Beretta Extrema. Gun woulda been great for a soutpaw and I hope Remington gets the bugs worked out.

I also had heard that the new Remingtons had a lot of bugs. I bought one of the 11-87 supermags when they first came out and it was nothing but trouble. From what I hear they still have yet to work the bugs out of that model, so dont hold your breathe for them to fix the bugs in the 105 Cti ......
 
Basically, they are taking an Ithaca m37 or BPS and asking it to work with out pumping! Trying to eject, feed, and load out of the same slot is asking a lot of an automatic and it just doesn't seem to work.

I used to bleed green, but my faith in Remington went south quite a while ago. I stand by my 870 Wingmaster, and if anything happened to it, I'd be looking for another one from the 80s or earlier.

The first 10 years of the 1187 were pretty solid too, but around the time the started that scrolled engraving business I started to hear and see bad things about quality control.

My first repeater was an 870 (chromed shell carrier). Broke my first hundred straight skeet with that gun. Shot a lot of fowl and a number of deer with it too. Was completly satisfied with that gun until I started short shucking it. Then moved on to 1100's and 1187's. I own several other flavors of guns but my go to is the 11-87. I once owned a model 1917 and an Ithica 37. Should have kept the 1917 as a collector's piece but I got short of money and had to let it go. The slickest (not best balanced) pumpgun I ever shot was an old Remington model 31 (wish I had kept that one too) Sorry Remington opened the barn doors on this new one too soon as it really handles beautifully.

I had to go back to a model 11 for a few weeks this year, and was surprised that it killed birds - with 1 oz steel loads no less! Made me think twice about needing a 3.5" gun...
Harry - Is there any way you can arrange to shoot the new gun before buying? I haven't heard anyone here reply that has actually shot/owned/hunted with one - just hearsay about "others not liking it", etc.. so no first hand experiences.
Had to defend Rem a little....

The Remington rep told us last September the 105's tolerances have been "tightened up" which improved it's failure to feed rate over early production (the biggest complaint); should be on par now with other manufacturers. He had the exact numbers, percentages, etc - sounds like when the model works well, it's a dream to shoot. Guess we'll have to see if the bean counters push production expectations beyond the workers ability to get it done properly - time = $$ - would like to think the best of Remington, though same "small detail" of tolerances/tooling compromised their 750 feeding/mags in some calibres the year before...a problem corrected, but still heard 'round rifle shooters. There are those in the company trying to put things right, so hope shooters can keep the faith. If you had specific questions, best call Remington and see what the Company line is...would think they'd be up front with you?

I'm not anti-remington at all, its really unfortunate that their products have fallen off in the past 10 years or so.

The best way to find out whether a product is good is to listen to the guys who have them, not the company selling them.

The Ct105 is a neat idea, it'd be great if it came on and took a little wind out of benelli's sails!

Meanwhile, I'll be shooting pumps and SxS primarily.

You really were going back in time with the model 11. I once owned one with a 32" full choke barell,plain stock and US ordinance bombs (logo) pressed into the barrell. the 11 actually predates the Browning A-5 which was made from the same patent. Another gun I wish I had kept. Maybe I'll wait on the 105 and hope the quality control etc. at Remington gets better. Until then I'll continue shooting my 11-87 or my Beretta 390 or my H&K.

I've also played around with the idea of buying a Beretta Extrema so I could have a 3 1/2 " capability, even though I think 3" shells are completely adequate. No I don't know anyone who owns a 105 and I kinda doubt that any store is gonna let me test fire one.

I have never owned a remington automatic but a guy who was hunting with me last month had a new 11-87 supermag and on the first day the bolt broke in half?? He was shooting factory ammo when it happened, the gun had never had a reload run through it.

I had never seen that happen before, needless to say he was pretty upset about it. He had already sent the gun back once to fix a cycling problem.
 
I bled Big Green/Remington in my earlier years. I got a transfusion around 1993, when their QC went to pot. The 105 cti is so bad that they've already designated a new model, the 105 cti II or something to distance itself from the other. There were many, many stories of issues, and Remington actually refunded money on some. Until they get a proven track record, I'd be wary. My oldest 1100s and 11-87 were great. I traded an older one for a new one in 1993, and after THREE lemons from Remington in a row, I traded the last of the three 11-87s on a Browning and have not bought another post 1992 Remington product. In the Army, I had to send sniper rifles back to Remington, that had come straight from the custom shop with bad tolerances between 1999 and 2001. It's a crying shame, really. I used to love their stuff.
