New Schellinger project

Hey guys, I am pretty new to the site. I hunt south zone ponds and coastal waterways of new jersey. I recently sold my BBSB and decided to pick up a 12' Schellinger low boat AKA roy boat. After hunting with my buddy matt who owns one i knew i wanted to get my hands on one too! The speed and manuverability of this thing is unmatched. It is perfect for the area i will be hunting.

The boat i purchaced needs some cosmetic work and the trailer built by roy also needs some attention.......But the Boat it self just needs some make up and she will be ready for Prom lol. I will get some pictures up when i get home. Very excited to get started working on this boat!
 
Here's my 2011 low boat with a 15 horse Yamaha 2 stroke.
Amazing how seaworthy they are in a sea if you keep the bow up. And like you said maneuverable. Good luck with it!
 
hilarious Chris. I would like to hear yours and Tod's stories of these boats sinking, hulls cracking, accidents, deaths caused by the unsea worthiness of the schellingers since you two seem to be so vocal in your venom towards the boats....seriously I would like to hear the stories if you have them. You both obviously have extensive experience with the boats.

John, As some of are other members have said you better have a lot of Flowtation in that boat, I guess you haven't encountered many rough water conditions where & how you Gun. You appear to be to Speed Conscious. You evidently didn't do much gunning in the later Part of Jan.This year. I thing you are going to regret selling your BBSB. I would rather be Safe Then Sorry.Just my Opinion.

Seems Tod was just giving sound advice here. I too would recommend foam in just about any boat.
 
John very nice boat for new jersey marshes. Like others have said. You better put foam in that boat or its going to sink!

Rather than wait for a sinking to occur would it not be better to prevent a sinking?
Perhaps you can enlighten the safety minded by providing a copy of the Coast Guard inspection report for this boat. Surely Roy must be complying with the laws and regulations when he manufactures these boats.

Seems to me I'd read somewhere the Roy boat captains don't like the foam since it takes up decoy space in such a small boat and the decoys add the floatation needed. Me? I'd prefer the floatation. But on the other hand why can kayak companies get away with shoving a little piece of foam in the bow and call the boat safe? A sit-in kayak will sink....trust me! My new Alumacraft 1442 has 2 pods in the stern with 2 cubic feet of floatation on each side and the whole bow is foam filled. That maybe a little over kill. I sure wish they'd left a little storage space up front. But then again this boat is rated for 3 people and a 25hp motor.
