this is a 97 roy boat that was purchased off this forum in february. first thing i did was take it for a test run and man did she fly. im guessing somewhere in the range of 25 knots. scary for such a small light boat! it didnt need much work but the grassrails had to be completely redone so i also added bronze hardware and a few new handles in the back while i was at it. i sanded her down and put on a better color paint along with some stencil work for the area i hunt. changed the bearings on the trailer and added uprights last week along with a few other odds and ends. now shes all ready to get wet. i am extremely excited to get it grassed up and use it for hunting this season. also took a pic of the geese that were staring at me while i was snapping the pics and could almost hear them saying "oh crap matt has a new toy"

Matt, Welcome to the "church" of Roy ......... one of the best boats for the jersey marshes. Best of luck with it.

,Matt, I had a 2000 high boat with a 25 horse, it was like a rocket loaded with 2 men. Great boats. Good luck, you'll love it.

Do any of you Roy owners know a solution to cover up the machine screws that go through the flaps to hold the grass rails? I'm worried about the dog catching his paw on them. I put acorn nuts on them but am wondering what you guys do.

I made the threaded portion to protrude on the inside of the flaps, them nutted it and ground the remaining bolt flush.

ed, i don't think i can grind them down because i need some room to space the rail, put grass under, and then tighten. im wondering if i should take the cap nuts off and place strips of cedar under there then put the nuts back on. that might be too much wieght for the flap i don't know. heres a picture of the screws protruding the inside of the flap.

Hey matt when i first bought my boat it had rails, i have since switched to the netting. But if you hunt with a dog i would run those bolts thru the other way, with the threads towards the outside of the flap so that the only time the long part is exposed is when the flap is up and then the dog would be in the boat. Then when you put the flap down they wont be exposed.

Love that boat. Paint looks excellent.. Curious as to what type of paint you used. I have a 04 roy boat with a 25 yamaha on it and yea they fly. I just put a new prop on it 9 and 7/8 by 14 per roy, now it really halls. I hunt the boat with a dodger similar to the one you can see on this site under duck boat specs and schellinger low boats.. Check it out.. let me know about the paint.. Thanks..

Great boats! Fast and stable! They handle the rough water very well. When I would hunt the Delaware river and it was rough I would just throw up the flapper board to keep the water off me. Mine was a low boat. It had a dog box up front with a 25hp. Sadly I had to sell it and buy a 16 footer . But I'll get another one some day soon. I still have a Roy coffin box though. so I can still go to church.

Roy boats are awesome. I am amazed how Jode's boat diasppears in the marsh once he adds some of the local vegetation.

Thanks for the help guys Im going to wait until I go to grass it and fumble some of your ideas then. The paint is pettit dull dead grass. It's about 25 bucks a quart off jamestown distributors. My bbsb is painted with it and has held up well.

I think the finish is great and will be sure to look it up when I redue the boat next year.. Thanks.. Have a good season and welcome to the church of Roy............

They're built like tanks but don't have that unwanted weight to drag off our SJ mud. I recall a mishap last season where a 12' high boat slid off it's trailer onto a deeply cross grooved concrete ramp. It took a pretty hard hit and came out of it with just a minor case of ramp rash. Good thing the motor was up.
