Thanks Kyle. It?s been a great season already, even though NJ regular season just opened today.
I got a jump on my season by heading to TN for their opener as the guest of a couple AL guys. Much to my surprise, they were good people! ( lol)

I gagged my heaviest Tom ever, a tad under 25 pounds!

Awesome bird, a rainbow of color.

Thanks. We wer hunting an 1100 acre cattle farm. Great spot, but man, I walked over 12 miles in two days to kill that bird!

Jode -

Walking 12 + miles for a bird that size sounds just about right.[smile]

Brings the concept of Fair Chase, and equality well into the hunt.

Now if ya had to carry that rascal that far out. That is payback.[;)]

Either way, you will not forget that bird anytime soon.

Congrats again my friend.

Best regards
Vince

Oh yes, fair chase and kicked my butt for sure! Luckily the walk out from the kill site wasn?t all 12 miles. I will say it was far enough. And I made a gobbler sling once I came home!!

Maybe so, maybe not. I have one tag left. But it doesn?t come in til 2nd week of May

Congratulations! Still in the "do the work" phase here, despite the season being open for nearly a week; Hens, hens, hens with jakes nearby, and a flock of jakes. Grouse are really starting to make "noise" now. No morels yet...

Our season is later weather wise. A warm snap has the hens solidly sitting, and the Gobblers lonely. A great recipe for success if you can find a mature bird.

Closer, twice, both times single birds hung-up. First bird would not cross a stone wall fence, so I waited a bit over twenty minutes after I lost sight of him to try and circle around and try again; walked right into him on a two track... Second try was a pair of birds, with both refusing to cross a vernal wetland. I did get one within 45 yards, but that bird was not out in the open, so I didn't risk a shot. I rolled a bird over three years ago in a similar situation and distance, only to never find it.

Weather keeps jumping all over the place, mostly on the too cold side. We still have a fair amount of snow in spots. Snow going to rain predicted today with wind gusts up to 40mph. Took the dogs out this morning...flat calm and 34F.

Wow, snow, cold and high winds make for tough hunting. I too have lost a bird because of a obstructed shot. Live and learn, that for certain.
Patience kills more turkeys than anything!

Nice birds!

Well, the best season ever keeps getting better. My daughter Ali connected this morning on her first ever Turkey! Congratulations kiddo!

We were set up in a mixed pine forest 40 Yards off a field edge. We Had a boss bird gobbling and working right off the roost like he read the script.

Then out of the corner of the field a BIG black coyote comes stalking in. He was limping badly on his right front quater . He stopped at 50 yards behind a big pine, then sulked away. Allison never had a clear shot. He Scared our bird away😭.

We sat for another 1/2 hour when Ali catches movement on our right. It took forever for her to get a clear shot, but she was patient and rocked him at 30 yards!! Hillman trifecta!!
