NO CASSIE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That skunk funk smell different when it's straight from the butt doesn't it? Jessie got a shot the first year she hunted. I thought I was walking into a cloud from some industrial accident blown in from Decatur. I thought I was going to slough my lungs before I discerned the skunk. It was like, "what's that smell that vaguely resembles acetylhydrocarbonicmethylatedhalogenated-N-aminoamineazinic acid"?

The peroxide stuff works. Use scented shampoo/detergent though. They ususally get it in the face where it is hard to wash so try real hard to get the face and ears good.

My old golden (Ty - rest his soul) got sprayed several times. This was in the late 80-early 90's. I used a product called Skunk-Off. I'm not sure it is still available - but it worked for me more than once. Google it !

Ah, it'll wear off in a day or so . . . at least it has on my dog . . . twice.

Of course, I'm a bachelor and own my house, so maybe my standards are different than some peoples'.

I just put my dog in the chain link outside until the smell went away. It'll still come back a little when the dog goes for a swim, but only for about two weeks after the incident.

And if the dog was wearing a collar, you might as well junk that and get a new one.

Good luck,
NR

I know it's not a damned bit funny to you but wow am I having a major hoot. They did something about getting rid of Skunk bullets on MythBusters not long ago but for the life of me I can't remember the outcome and what was the best treatment. Buddy of mine was having trouble with his treeing fiest. The damned dog wouldn't tree a squirrel but was hell on skunks to the point that my buddy had open season on skunks in his vicinity. He apparently has reduced the number of skunks to the point that the dog can't find anymore to chase.
Bet next time you tell Cassie NO that she might be more likely to listen.

Unlimber your .22 and start thinning the skunk herd. Don't pick them up after the shot, let the Possums eat them.

Reminds of the story about the possum making love to the skunk and saying he had enjoyed about all of that he could stand.

Tell Cassie thanks for the laugh,
Harry

Eric and anyone else, I was watching one of those how do they do it shows and this product was one of them featured.I know how skunk odor can be on a dog.

It is Expel Odor Neutralizer Expelproducts.com 32oz. spray bottle 9.95

The show was about a couple of famous pitchman and the testing that they go through before they will pitch a product. They tested this product on tennis shoes, cat litter, etc.

They even tested it on a skunk. Even though the skunk almost bit the tester. Not a friendly skunk.

What is different about this product is it doesn't mask the odor it eliminates it. It was deleloped by a chemist. It said it was non toxic.

Dave S,
thanks for the tip on this one. I used it a while back and guess what?
I am looking all over for some baking soda this morning.....
Dog got it right in front of the open downstairs window!!!!!

Do you think if I drink this Stuff the smell in the house will clear out.........before my wife gets down stairs? I may be living out in the chain link with the dog over this one........

Were the wife to help, the smell wouldn't be so bad.

Since misery loves company, Marsh got lightly hit two weeks ago. Wish we'd had a bottle handy. Went with the old hydrogen-peroxide, soap & baking soda trick. Worked so/so, but since you can't get it in their eyes it's tough to wash it off the snout. Interestingly Marsh's collars held the stink worse than he did. Thanks for the reminder on the odor neutralizer, I just ordered a pair as we are invaded by skunks this year. I see one almost every am on our walk, and sometimes a couple.

T minus 11 days! Horonk!

I'm glad it worked for you. It definitely works for me in deer hunting situations.

It will cause rust on some metals so watch where the over spray goes.

I just put my archery clothes in the washer with baking soda and scent free soap, and will be making a new batch of spray this week.
