No ducks but a couple bucks

Here are a couple bucks I have taken this season, The mule deer was shot on the breaks of the Powder River in Wyoming mid October, most likely the oldest buck I have ever taken, his front teeth were worn down to the gum line and his molars were pretty much slick with no sharp edges left.

I shot him asleep in his bed at 30 yards while working up some side coulees mid day.

I took this whitetail yesterday on a late permit hunt in the Blue Mountains of Washington he was hot on a doe about 30 minutes after daylight, one shot at 290 yards with my 300 short mag then the work began packing him out of the canyon after I boned out all the meat.

Got the boat all grassed up today,,, it's time to start looking for some ducks!!!

WOW FRED!!!!!! THOSE ARE SOME GREAT DEER!!!!

Looks like you had a good time....good luck with the ducks...If you're as successful with ducks this year as with the bucks in your photos, you're going to have an awesome year! I hope that all is well

Dani

Dani, all is good up here, isn't it past your bed time????

Hope you can make it up here one of these days for some ducks.

Fred

Good lord Fred, cant you put on a glint of a smile, we all know you get as giddy as a schoolgirl when you shoot fur. Nice deer - 290 yards that is impressive.

Not only are those beautiful deer, but I was thinking of the environment you were set up on in those two hunts. That had to be fun.

Nice deer you got there Fred. That old guy you shot while he was sleeping was probably hardof hearing at his age and didn't realize you had snuck up on him. hehe:>) :>) Too bad they won't walk themselves out of the canyon and back to the truck. It's never as far in as it is out.

Derek,

I think he is trying to look like the angst filled, twenty something, black hoodie wearing duck hunters he sees so many, oh so cool pictures of on the net.

Great deer Fred!

Chuck

That is great Fred, thanks for putting these pics up.

Next couple-three years (once Gus is in school and I have some more free time to get away) I'm going to start doing some freelance western big game hunts and I'd like to pick your brain on how to go about it when the time comes. I've seen some dandies in my wanderings over the past few years and my pump is really primed to get out there after them.

Did your elk behave well for you this year?

When you bringing some steaks to the farmhouse? We gotta get the four corners club down for a diver hunt.

Guys,,, and Dani Thanks for the compliments, Just got done butchering the deer and Hunters cow elk he shot last Friday on a damage control hunt behind the house, pesky little critters keep getting into the hay fields so the game dept has a special hunt to keep them out of the fields.

Todd, When your ready to go for big game out west just give me a shout and I can offer some suggestions.

Brad, it's time to get together and get after some bills.

Derek,,I'll be sure to smile the next time I get my mug in front of the camera!! and I'll have my black hoodie on

Dang nice mulie there Fred. That is the one thing that still gets me cranked up to go after big game..the ever elusive 30" mule deer. Those old mulies live in some of the neatest toughest country around.

Great Mulie Fred.

I took this Speed Goat along the banks of the Powder river in Oct as well. He rough scored 82" we'll see if he makes the mark!

Holy crap!!! Dave that is a great goat,

How do you like the TC rifle? I have had my eye on one for awhile but bought a Tikka 300 short mag instead, been real happy with it but I'd still like to try a TC.

Fred

Thanks! he definitely stood out from the herd.

That one is a 25-06 and is a real shooter! You can see a burn mark in the goat's hide behind his neck That was from a rushed shot @ 347 in some wind. I finally stopped him with an easy 200ydish shot.

I also took a mulie @ 390 with the 25 and put him right down. It's very fast and very flat. 117gr.

The encore fits me very well and it's nice to just change barrels in order to have a different caliber, but the same feel.

I shot a white tail doe on saturday with a 209x50 encore. I'd highly recommend a T/C. They make good hard barrels that can be real tack drivers when you break them in properly and practice a little.
