No Ducks---Literally!

When I was younger I did my very best to hunt & fish for everything that was in season 6 days a week (bye-bye first marriage).

I can relate to that. I think she actually cited it in the filing.

Carl - The marriage counselor I was paying $90 a hour, told me. "If you were a alcoholic, drug addict, gambler or womanizer, your wife could relate to that and your marriage would a have chance. Hunting, many women can not relate to or comprehend. You have a 1% chance of saving your marriage."

So ya, Hunting & Fishing to much = "Irreconcilable Differences."

Live & Learn.

Sorry for the detour off topic.

Hi Al,
Pearl is doing just fine. We had a few early season outing's the first two weeks of October. Today opened our deer season and ducks open back up after Veteran's Day. We will be out from then until the middle of January. Hopefully will post some trips as they happen.
Take Care.

When the water begins flowing in the Rio Grande after the irrigation ditches are shut down on Monday, the 31st, we will see what the river looks like. The refuge down here hasn't been filling holding ponds like they used to so that makes any ducks coming down here early head for Elephant Butte Lake which is 75 miles south of us.

Steve, I am glad to hear that you guys got that much needed rain. Hopefully your ponds are looking like they should.
Al

Vince, I am glad that I was single for most of my time in Alaska. I had a dickens of a time deciding on what I wanted to hunt because there were so many different animals to go after. Then to think that duck and goose season coincided with the above was just making things worse. The Koop Dee Grass was in the fall when the silver salmon would run and they sure were fun to catch. The one thing that I did enjoy was working on a gill netting operation on Cook Inlet one summer. That was a ton of fun. I spent June and July fishing; salmon, rainbow trout and grayling. Loved to tie my own flies and used two different Fenwick fly rods back then. August was always the opener for Dall sheep, mountain goats, black bear and then around the 20th back then we could go after moose. As they have always said, Time sure flies when you are having fun.

I know what you are talking about.
Al

Thanks, Troy. I was out cutting firewood and it was then that I thought of your pup's name, Pearl. Have a great fall season.

Al - Some of the best advice my mentor gave me many years ago was. "Do what you love while your young, don't wait and fall for that Golden Years crap." I took his advice, with no regrets.

It is good that you got to do, and continue to do what you love and enjoy. May you have many more years to enjoy. Salude!

I did not get married til I was 32 cuz of hunting & fishing, it lasted 5 years. At 60 1/2 I married a wonderful woman and artist who understands my lifestyle.

Time sure does fly when yer having fun but, Man 0 Man the memories...

Your list of fish & game made my mouth water.

Good Morning Al,
Just back from Canada, plenty of birds will be coming you way -144 Mallards & Pintails, got to ride in the truck south.
Still plenty of Green Wing Teal in Sask. warm weather, heavy fog each day of our hunt, harvest still behind due to wet condition.
Most Mallards & Pintails that we have seen in many years, hunted the same Wheat field three days in a row with 6 man limits of ducks.
Snow Geese also managed to get to ride south in the truck, 262 to be exact. All birds processed, ducks plucked and packaged.
Hope your season picks up when the weather changes.
Bella II had the time of her life, shared the duties with 2 other labs and they managed to share the work.
Best Regards,
Dennis S. (Rio Rancho, NM)

Sticky mud tip...Wear stocking foot waders with no boots. You run the risk of punctures depending on the bottom but you can move soooo much easier.
