No modern guns here....

Steve, Great to see you hunting with the backbone shotguns we were all brought up hunting with, thanks for sharing. Enjoy your season.

Speaking on behalf of the straight stocked AH Fox, when I googled the serial number just now, it appears to have been made in 1928.

...I've heard that Briley makes sub-gauge tubes...
allowing (modern) 20 gauge to be fired in 12 gauge barrels...
I'm sure that they're not cheap, but it can reduce a lot of hassle
loading low pressure shells...
Unless you're a loony like me,that actually enjoys the reloading
process...Glad to see the guns in the field...

really- how many shells do most of us fire on a hunt- a morning at the reloading bench will cover a few years supply of low pressure non-tox loads

i do hand weigh the shot charge, since the Mec bars are set up for lead, but can still load several boxes of 25 shells in an hour including doing the roll crimp on the short tens

i also however also load flats of lead loads for these old gun since I shoot clays with them nearly weekly off season, they go very quickly

Great write-up and photos. Love the classic guns. You know....I got an idea. Why not have a classic gun and muzzleloader duck season like you have a muzzleloader deer season? Might even inspire some of the shell manufacturers to produce some classic gun compatible loads that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Great idea, Tom!

The "Old Guns Only" season could run for...let's say....49 days. Then all the guys with the new stuff would be welcome on the last day each year!

(Maybe I'm being just a a bit close-minded......)

All the best,

SJS
