Normandy

My family and I have been in Europe the past couple of weeks or so and am planning a trip to Normandy in the morning. Not looking forward to the drive from Paris as I've heard good and bad but it is what it is.

If anyone has been there, any suggestions on tours to take or what to avoid? I have been wanting to take this trip for some time and am looking forward to the history and to pay respect to those who have fallen. I don't know what I'll be thinking when looking out across the channel.

I would prefer to take a train but there is a current air traffic controller strike and for some reason this has booked up all trains cars and busses. Hopefully this strike will be resolved by Sundway when we return

It's not a bad drive from Paris at all. It's nothing like driving in the UK. It is absolutely worth the drive. Make sure you get to Pointe du Hoc.

It is an easy trip to plan once you get there. Get with the concierge at your hotel, etc. don't do any tours go it alone and at your own pace.

Hi Mark: My wife and I were there in April. Well worth the trip, very moving experience. It is very easy to do your own "tour" of all the Normandy beaches since you will have a car. The museum at the American cemetery is very interesting. We were fortunate to be on a guided tour that the cemetery does every couple of hours. It is AMAZING!! DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY, I would have to say it was one of the highlights of our trip. Enjoy.

its been 12 years since I have been there. I didn't do a tour just got a pamphlet and walked around point du hoc and cemetery. Driving is better than dealing with the rude French workers at the train stations and the French people on the trains. I wondered after I left if there would be some sights in the small towns around the area.
