Northern Minnesota?

My significant other applied for a job in Grand Rapids, MN and they want to fly her out for a visit next week. She is not overly thrilled with the position but it pays decent and would be something more permanent. I've got a young wire-haired griffon who would probably be in heaven with all of the grouse and woodcock. Anyone know much about the duck hunting in that area? Thanks!

Wish I could help you out more. I would have thought that someone would have had some feedback for you.

Your going to have a blast with the grouse. Lots of room to roam in the woods. I am guessing that your going to be looking for wild rice lakes for hunting but I don't know for sure.

Maybe Nick R will chime in. He is live up that way.

I hope you like fishing because if you do you will be in heaven. It has been a while but that is nice country if you enjoy the outdoors.

The only downside is Viking fans.....

Hey, watch it Pete!!! I'm a diehard Vikes fan! I spent the first 20 years of my life in northern MN.

I don't know too much about the hunting there. Only went a few times when I was little. Pete has it right, excellent fishing. If you don't already like hockey, you're gonna learn to love it up there in Grand Rapids. Norhtern MN is quite beautiful too!

You will also be busy going after white-tail and black bear. You won't lack for birds and critters to hunt. Maybe you can hunt a few musky, too.

Even though I live in MN, I just don't go north to hunt anymore. We used to head up towards Detroit Lakes to catch the diver migration but that turned into such a hit and miss proposition that we just stopped doing so.

Nick Ronning lives up towards Duluth - search for a post of his on this site and private message him. He should be able to provide some guidance. You can also find out who the local CO is and give him a call. Most are very helpful to newbies. He can at least put you onto some of the better public lands.

Can also contact this organization, they may be of some help

I lived west of Grand Rapids, Crookston, for a year. I didn't do any waterfowl hunting. I assume as long as the water doesn't freeze you will have opportunities. I did hunt about everything else. I got spoiled on grouse huinting. Ice fishing is great. there was always something to do outdoors.
