Not duck related but I was in a boat

My local rivers have been up and down all around their flood stage level, for a couple weeks now. So I did the next best thing and fished a small local public pond. This little pond is a borrow pit for when the DOT came thru and rebuilt the old two lane road to a four lane divided highway.

Trolled a big fat leech when, this girl decided she just could not let it pass by. At 17.5 inches and 3lbs 5 ounces, it is a quite decent fish for my area. She is still swimming.

I've been wondering what you've been doing. Should have known you were somewhere with a fish on the hook.
Played the role of "plumber" just the other day. Water valve in our home shower, had been getting hard to pull the knob outward/inward, for on/off. Finally bit the bullet and did some research. The valve in question was new in 1977 when we moved in as first owners of this home. I at first, didn't even know a brand name for the valve. How was it built? No access panel, was I going to have to knock a hole in the wall?

Long story short, $45 in parts and $450 in saved labor, I got the job done myself. I was able to extract the "guts" (fought me all the way), clean the housing up and slide in a new "cartridge". Pretty amazing when you think about it. 48 years of service, back to brand new condition, for $45 in parts and done by a homeowner.

I can remember leaky faucets growing up. Replace the packing, replace the rubber washer, recut the seat so the new washer had something smooth to seal against. Seems like there was always at least one faucet in the home that wasn't fully 100%.

Granted the valve I rebuilt should have been rebuilt over a year ago, but 47 -48 years of trouble free service? Hard to not like that.
