O.K., Sutton....

.... I told you I'd be in by Christmas, and this morning I finally finished up the last of the trim work. It's taken me a year and a half, but I finally have my painting studio finished (except for hanging pictures and the flat-panel T.V.).

Between hunting season starting, wiring, insulating, drywalling (ugh), painting, etc...I don't think I've completed a bird since I cleared the carving workshop to paint a bird for Pat Gregory back in October. That doesn't mean I haven't been carving, so at least there's a pile of birds down in the wood-shop awaiting paint.

Here are some pics:

Ceiling & window trim (thank goodness for compound miter saws!):

Main light and ceiling fan:

Put down some nice flooring (small heater keeps the place toasty when needed - fake stove on the left is also a heater, but more for atmosphere):

Nice Bob, wouldn't have expected anything less coming from you. I suppose I will have to remove my shoes before entering your throne area. :>)

Bob

Looks to be a great atmosphere for painting decoys. In a year from now will there be paint spatters all over the walls and floor or do you work as neat as your carpentry suggests? Nice job.

Bob.....hen I started calling it "THE TAJ" I thought I was kidding.....turns out I wasn't giving you enough credit....

Hell most carvers would move into that and start paiinting in their formal dining rooms.......

As always.....you amaze......

Bob,

Very nice! I really like the fold down tables. Are they something you bought or made? Would you please share some more detailed pictures of the tables?

My best,

Don

Beautiful Bob,
I really like the tables to take advantage of the natural light.
I also love the floor. What did you use and how is it treated?
Thanks for sharing, John

Don,

Carl was bitching about having to take his wife to IKEA, but if you keep your eyes open, you can see stuff you can go back for. Yup, tables are IKEA. I believe they ran about $29 each. At that price it wouldn't have paid to try and make 'em! Very well made & sturdy.

Taking advantage of the light from the windows was part of the reasoning on the drop-down tables. There is also a flourescent work light mounted above the one on the rear (west) wall.

I found the flooring at a place called "Lumber Liquidators" On the right day, one can find all sorts of bargains there. I picked it up on sale, and it ran about $1.30 per sq. ft. It's that high end "click flooring" (like Pergo, etc.) Comes with the pad already on the boards - no glueing, no nailing, just a little time and the cheap install kit I already had from doing other rooms in the house. This stuff is called 'Mountain pine." Sold under the brand name: Nirvana (30 year guarantee). As far as durability, looks, and ease of care, better than hardwood IMO

Bob,

Thanks for the heads up on the tables. I was toying with the idea of making a table that will fold off the wall for the Bride in the laundry room for folding clothes and wrapping presents on. These looked like just the ticket.

IKEA? Never been in one. One of the many great things about living in the middle of nowhere is we do not have these type of stores to get drug to. I just did an search and the closest one is 263 miles away over by Sutton. I wonder if he would go for me? :) I know he loves shopping.

My best,

Don

I am sure Mr Sutton would consider shopping for a substantial fee.......plus expenses.....not sure why he found what you were looking for in Vegas or South East Alaska......or maybe some other destination that is far away...

Great job Bob, Looks like you will enjoy many hours of painting time in your new "shop".......(more like a beautiful dining room to me).....:):) GOOD LUCK and who gets the first decoy painted in "The Taj"
