Off Topic-Anyone know anything about fixing a dryer???????

We have a Kenmore 90 series gas dryer. It works except that there is no heat to it. Now, we replaced the igniter, and nothing. I have to imagine it's electrical and not gas related. I called the place I got the igniter from and they told me the next thing to try would be the thermal fuse. Problem is I cant find what the thermal fuse it. We've scoured the web and cant find a drawing of parts. I cant get the back of it off, but have managed to get the lint trap off and found a bunch of parts with wires going to them. I'm at my wits end here. I'm putting a few pictures up of some of the parts. I can take more if someone has an idea as tow whats what. One thing I do know is that I can make out Made in Mexico on a couple of the parts which explains why this thing ain't workin!

Ok, for some reason I cannot get the pictures to work (picture site, not here). When it rains, it pours!

Thanks in advance!

Paul,

I replaced the thermal sensors on an ELECTRIC dryer I have. It was my fisrt attempt at appliance repair and it was easy. There is a local shop that is DIY friendly. There were two sensors. One at either end of the heating chamber. I would guess tha a gas dryer has something similar. I think I reach these by tipping the dryer over and going in from the bottom.

Paul,
Just went through that with our Whirlpool drier. You must remove the back (on the Whirlpool anyhow) and there is a white thermal link (fuse) that two wires spade-clip into. You can jump those wires (without removing the fuse) and see if the drier starts up. If it starts up......you know that's the problem. That was my problem and I merely replaced that link and we were back in operation and I ............was a hero again to my wife. ;)

Hello Fello Michigander,

Whenever I attempt DIY appliance/furnace repair, I use www.repairclinic.com . I checked it out and there is schematics on the whirlpool gas dryer (type 1 and 2). When you get to the home page, click on repair help ( right side of screen) then, dryers, then Whirlpool Gas Dryer . When the pixs of the dryer comes up, just move your mouse over the parts and the names of the parts magically appear.......pretty cool and simple......just my style :)

Good Luck Sir,

Donivan

Thanks for the replies fellas. Donivan, the website was helpful, and helped me identify the part. Checked it for continuity, and nothing. Off to get the part tomorrow. Tom, I made a feeble attempt at getting the back off the machine today, and hoped and prayed I would not have to. I have no idea how they got this thing in the laundry room, but its a struggle to move it and be in the room at the same time!

Lou, The thought of jumping wires really makes me nervous. I'm a coward when it comes to electricity!

Thanks again, I'll post tomorrow after I get it up and running.

Almost forgot to reply. I did get the part, and got it up and running. Michele + Dryer = Michele Happy

Thanks again for the help fellas!

Is it an LP gas or a natural gas dryer ? There is a difference. Sometimes the Natural gas dryers were incorrectly sold as LP gas and vice versa. As Sears is not a purveyor of either type of gas that could be part of your problem. You will need to get a tecnician out to give it a look see and make whatever repairs/modifications nescessary. Don't do this yourself as both gases are explosive and natural gas can be poison. Dad was in the LP gas business for 30 years. He now recommends electrical appliances except for cooking.

Let a pro do this one as you will be safer and cheaper in the long run.
Best,
Harry
PS Think of all the wool socks camo clothes etc. that go through the dryer so actually it is duck related.

So , Michelle is happy that you can finish the wash? When I worked on my dryer, the sides came off the back exposing the guts. Had to replace the drum belt a few times.
