Went down to the River this a.m. to ride around

Took all the frond blackducks to float.

Nah, they're floating waaaaaaayyy to low in that sweetwater. Send them to me and I'll see if they work better in the salt.

Don't worry I'll send the right back after testing.

My favorite wary blackduck story (circa 1970's): We were hunting in a slough near Rabbit Hash, Ky and had brought along an old charcoal mini-grill we'd picked up off the bank the day before ( there's no end to the debris you can find on the banks of the Ohio). That day, as a result of our "find," my hunting partner had packed deer chops, charcoal and , lighter fluid to prepare a lunch. Slow day, birds not finishing for us, and we finally fired up the grill on the bank behind us to cook up the chops. Flames spouting about 3' high right after we lit the coals, and I hear him whisper, "Don't move." Well, here come a pair of black ducks over the tree tops across from us - doggone bonfire in plain sight. They didn't even hesitate, locked up, and flopped right in. After the shooting, my buddy turned to me and said, "Ah, the wary black duck."
Just when you think you've seen it all.... Usually if we have a mixed group of mallards and blacks come in, the blackies will sit just out of range.

They are Stubborn Birds they either come right on in or they just don't give you any shot at all. We where hunting scaup of a point a few years back and while we were sitting up telling good jokes and stories we had one land right in the decoys. It always seems to be when you are eating!!

Buy the way Bob I love your High head Black in the photo. I remember you posting that bird be for. One of these day I like to get on just like it from you for my collection.
