My first duck of the Day Greenwing Teal, I took 6 birds this AM 1 GWT, 4 BWT and 1 Drake woodie.
Gordy did AWESOME, never lost a bird had a cripple woodie to hunt down and I never steped foot out of the
boat blind. For his 2nd season were off to a stellah start for sure.
The boat interior was great cooked up eggs and bacon for Chuck and Gordy and I before sunrise. The rope system on the
dog ramp and people ladder are back savers for sure. Great day we ened up with 8 ducks total 2 more BWT for my partner.
few more pix's, left the good camera home to much other stuff going on to mess with it but will take it with next time.

Dave,

Nice hunting. In that first photo, Gordy looks like he was in a parade, what with all the confetti on his noggin. hehe

I'd post pics of my morning, but I don't think anyone wants to see the inside of a machine shop! Had to work till 1:00pm and the forecast for tomorrow is rain. It just now started a sprinkle outside as I type this.

How are the river levels over there? We've had enough recent rain too bring our local rivers right up to bank full and just beyond. They are starting to recede now, but not down to normal yet. I haven't even been out to scout my usual spots.

Way to go Dave looks like all the planing came together. Got a couple of mallards this morning. No divers yet. Some ring bills about 12 of them came though earlier in the week, nothing since.

Good Dawg Gordy heres a big pat for ya and ask dad for a treat from me and Makayla ,way to go Dave, and i spent the nite last nite blowing Mickey`s goose call and by gawd by the end of the nite i almost sound like a goose thanks Dave and good luck out there its good to see you get sum time to have sum fun with gordy.
shermie...

Dave,

Looked like a good morning. That Woodie is absolutely beautiful. I'd be temped to have that one mounted. Gordy go diving for ducks...hehe That first pic is great with all that duck wart on his head. Water high up there?

I went out and sat in the deer stand this morning until it started raining. Saw two fine fat does but no racks. Illinois waterfowl youth hunt is this weekend and there was quit a bit of shooting down here. I didn't see anything flying so I assume it was the local woodie population getting an education. Next weekend for us but the water is pretty high down here. Not sure what I'm doing yet. A couple of places I had in mind are pretty deep now. I went scouting last weekend and there were a lot of decoys floating around the back waters.

Keep up the good work!

Ed L.

Dave glad you had a great day with Gordy.Pics are good. The Drake woody looks comfortable in Gordy's soft mouth. If it was leagal you could keep him as a live mount.LOL

HuntinDave You're going to have to explain RAIN to Me and Leslie, with pics. We've forgot what it looks like here in the Great Southeast Desert:o)

Dave,

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. Very nice looking lab too. Where'd ya get Gordy?

Was surprised to see and read that you got BWT's. Has the weather been warm/hot in Iowa this fall? Those blue wings and woodies detest cold.

Keep the great pictures coming!

Craig

Nice start Dave. Glad you guys had a good outing and Gordy was on mark. Like Ed said, that woody looks beautiful. Hard to tell if the body was in good shape and the one wing thats bent back would lay right, but it has mounting potential. Nice plummage.

Looks like a great hunt!!! Hey Dave and others in Iowa, how are the road counts on pheasants this year? Looks like I will be coming to your great state at the end of the month to chase a few. Shawn

Great photos Dave,

You gotta love the duckweed. Looks like you have a good pot hole for you and Gordy. Sweet photos.

I'll be up your way in a little more than a month. We were getting things ready today... new axle on the trailer, new wiring on the trailer. It won't be long now!!

Great pics Dave. I love Gordy's "Camo".

There are plenty more BWT's up north. Saw a bunch, and took a few in MB last week.

hey guys thanks for all the comments, we skipped yesterday ( opening weekend normaly crappy around here and I wont sit in a down pour for teal thats fr sure lol - we did watch the BEARS LOOSE :) a good thing) Back out Wed of this week then not again till next monday. Need some ducks from the north and some pink feet to get me going.

Dave-Ed the river on pool 13 is about normal not high by anymeans they maintain it real well, where i gun pleanty of water at least. Bellow lock 13 though it is up for sure by the south bridge on the Illinois side some dry land is flooded and CHUCK full of mallets.

Craig its been cold and hott past week now not above 65 and lows in the low 40-36 degrees, I expected to not see as many teal but we have a BUNCH that is for sure. I was surprised the lack of big ducks on opening day that we did see. Maybe all rafted up by the casino boat getting free bread from the rich folks spending their millions on that thing.

Shawn pheasants the only thing i can tell you is i hear the middle of the state counts were up last I heard, around our place I normaly hear them all morning and evening crowin and see them in the short grass but have not heard or seen anything at all. I dont hunt them much maybe once or twice
so I dont get a good read on them.

Take care and good luck to everyone this next weekend.
