Oregon duckhunting question

I am out here visiting my kid who lives on the Willamette River in Portland.

This place looks like a waterfowl gold mine...south to Salem, north to the Columbia, northeast to the Snake and then farther north.

Who can tell me about the waterway? Its absolutely beautiful. Somebody here must hunt this area.

While I don't live in that region of the NW any more, I did for a few years in Vancouver. The Columbia is loaded during the season and the closer you get to the Pacific the better it gets. Tons of birds along the Willamette, just have to take an ID class to hunt geese and if you shoot a dusky, you are done for the season. Plus the goose days in that area are not regular. Several Eurasian widgeon are killed on the coastal areas every year.
The Columbia from about Wallula Junction in WA. on up to the Canadian border has tons also. Just be careful on the wind and weather. Lots of cans, redheads, bluebills and most any puddler you could want. Grant County in WA. is waterfowl central for WA.

yes, you are right, its good for ducks. And to sound like a local, remember:

The Columbia river is a great place. You should go sturgeon fishing this time of the year. The Columbia River bar west of Astoria is one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world - serious river flowing into the ocean.

In Portland there is a spot called Sauvies island -where the Willamette (Will-am-it)and the Columbia meet - best public hunting in the north of the state. beautiful in the summer as well.
Best beach area is north in Washington - Long Beach, WA (cold year round)
