Padding on boat floor?

I am wanting to put some sort of padding or floor material to ease my knees, deaden the sound, etc. on my Devlin Bluebill floor. What have you all used that is durable and does not soak a lot of water?

Many of us, myself included, have used the OD green army sleeping pads. These are closed cell foam that don't absorb water and are very durable. Here is an example : http://www.vtarmynavy.com/sleeping-pad.htm I haven't used this source but the place I got mine no longer carries them. Four years ago they were about $7 each, now it looks like they are about $15 each.

Thanks Pete,

I remember you or others talking about them some while back, probably on the old board, but was unsure on the durablity of those pads. I will probably go that route.

Did I see a post sometime ago, maybe on the old board where someone use some sort of neoprene mat?

Those pads are easily found at pawn shops or army surplus stores. I have purchased one within the last couple of years for camping purposes. Another option would be the exercise mats and you can find them at a closeout store like ROSS or Biglots. I've seen them as low as 3 dollars.

Home Crappo - outdoor carpeting. Put in boat, grab knife and trim - easy.

I like it because it comes out after every hunt and the sand, stones, blah gets shaken out. Plus, it's very light and tough.

Good luck.

Probably others here use neoprene as well, but I use a 5mm Neoprene "cover" over the removable 1/2" plywood floorboard of my Broadbill. Mostly it helps deaden the sound and gives the dog a bit of traction. I use a 16"x30"x1" closed cell rubber foam mat to cushion the backrest and on top of the floor to help ease my hip joints, and tail bone.... The 5mm neoprene isn't much of a cushion really.

I picked up a piece that was at the entrance to a Walmart store, it was 4ft x 5ft and was skid resisitant and waterproof and also had a thin layer of rubber backing on it. Very inexpensive.

I bought an interlocking anti-fatigue foam mat from Costco here. $13.00 cdn for 64 sq. ft. I didn't glue it down so I could remove it for cleaning. Light weight, soft and warm.

I used Hydro-Turf on my Bluebill. It's been through two seasons and looks like new. It's more pricey than the army mats, but I like the fact that water runs into the channels so it tends to keep you drier. Of course, the channels also collect mud, so you have to use a hose and clean it off once in a while.

Here's a link to the Hydro-Turf closeout page. I ordered the "irregular" grey diamond pattern stuff

Nate,

Army barracks is where I got mine 3-4 years ago. Then last year all they had was the blue ones I think. Now, I can't even find them anywhere in their on line catalog. Point me in the right direction please. I don't necessarily have an immediate need but they always come in handy. I was just thinking about them yesterday when I was making sure my chains fit the new truck.

Hey Pete,

I'll have to go over there in person some time and check. If they have them in the store I could buy them and ship them to you. It is a fun store and they have a lot of interesting militaria stuff in there.

Nate

Thanks Nate, I don't need them that bad. Just was wondering why I couldn't find them on their web site. I know there are military surplus stores in this area, just none as cheap as army barracks was.

Another big thumbs up for hydro-turf, once you try it you will not use anything else. Very light weight, will not absorb water, easy to cut, cleans up easy....only drawback is price, but you can go the "B" grade seconds for half the price.
