Started building a pair of karas a couple of weeks ago. We're making slow but steady progress.

This will be Evan's boat. We cut a foot or so off one end and will attach a transom to mount a trolling motor.

Running wires under the side deck so the battery can be mounted in front.

The second boat will be mine, built to plans. The hull can be seen on the left. Cockpit is still unattached.

Are we going to see these boats in August? I'd love to see and touch the either. Also would love to talk with you about the experience of building these boats. Nice job Rick.

Interesting that Evan's boat will be modified for "power" and the old mans boat is "armstrong". Like Mark, I am assuming these will be available for the races in August, right. Old Farts get a 20 yard head start? :>) :>)
 
Looking good Rick and Evan. Hey maybe you can talk the neighbor into painting the blue boat parked on the street dead grass green. Then you'd have a tender! I'm hoping to make the annual trip. Hope to see these when I get there.

Wow! Looking good! I should be getting farther along with mine, but something always comes up! What did you use to water/weatherproof the inside of the boat?

Sorry to take so long getting back to the replies. I've been "gone fishin."

We hope to have both boats done in time for the boat builders gathering in August. Though it looks like it will be close. We may be taking them for a test run that weekend.

In answer to your question about why the kid's boat is powered and the old man's boat is "armstrong." That's so he can tow my boat through the open water and then when we get into the weeds, he'll be push poling the extra 100 pounds of motor and battery. (He hasn't figured that out yet.)

The boats will have a coat of epoxy and then a couple coats of FME on the inside. The outside will get glass cloth/epoxy/FME.
