Parker's first turkey!!

Parker, my 6 year old, was able to pull the trigger on a nice jake last week! He rolled him with his 410 at about 15 yds. Most exciting hunt I've ever witnessed. He was grinning from ear to ear all day. After he shot him, he said "dad, I can't stop shaking", I told him I couldn't either!!! Thank you Lord.

Congrats to both of you Brian. Oh my how that boy has grown. It's always a good day in the field when you can witness your child, or any kid for that matter, experience this kind of elation.

Brian and Parker, Way to go!!!!!!!!!!! Good job guys, love hearing when a young man gets his first bird, congrats to both of you on a job well done!!! Brian

Great story and picture Brian and a good thing you don't live in Maine, he'd have to wait until he is 10 to hunt. Congratulations to you both!!!

Great job both Dad and son. In MA he would have to wait until he was 12 and would also have to take a turkey seminar before being able to hunt. This state is horrible at promoting young hunting. Little Hank hunted in 10 states before his home state. Keep up the good work. Hank

Thanks all! You guys started making me wonder about the age, but I can't find nor have ever heard of any age reguirements in alabama. I will have to thank the reddot scope on the 410, it helped a ton. Parker had a mature gobbler come into the decoy at 12 yds but he wouldn't stay around long enough to get the gun on him. We had the whole family in the double bull blind and little brother was not very happy that big brother was first on the gun!!

That is just fantastic, Brian. That had to be a dream come true to watch Parker put him down. Way to go, Parker!
I, for one, would have loved to have been at his school when he told his classmates all about the hunt.

Brian,

Sounds like Alabama does it right. The parent ought to be able to tell when his child can handle a firearm and hunt safely with him. Promotes youth hunting!

Very cool. I just showed my 8 year old daughter she said its not fair she wants to shoot a turkey.

Uh yeah that why I showed her guess we will be doing some more target shooting in her near future.

Michigan eliminated the restriction on age starting this year kids can start at any age through a youth mentoring program that was put in place.

Congrats to your son he looks like that smile will not wear off for a while.

Now thats a great ear to ear smile....I wish our kids could hunt that early its 12 here.
great story and pictures .congrats young MAN.....
