Bob ,

Sorry i have been living under a rock lately but where is the waterfowlers day ? Did you attend the RI South shore duckhunters get together At Narragansett Bowhunters ? I would love to see the Kara . Do you use it alot for small water hunting ? I am really asking alot from a boat but i want to be able to have a safe relaible boat for those skinny waters here in RI . Thanks Looking forward to more info on the Conn. Duck days

Bozra rod and gun club just up the road from the casinos in lebanon CT off of rt 2 headed toward colchester ct.
I will have it there and it would be great to see you and Andrew esp. if one of you dragged your boat along.
Kids will be there and I hope it goes off without a hitch.

Talk about a bummer... I have to close up the family VT house next weekend... Dave - I hope you go and meet these guys. Scott came to visit me in the factory -- almost 5 years ago !!

Dear Dave:

I am working on two different plywood pirogues right now. 36" beam, 2-4" rocker. They are going to be 12' 6" and 13'6" long. The weight should come in at around 50 lbs (oakhume) and at about 80 lbs (Lowe's BCX) respectively. The basic design is from http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/jim/piragua/index.htm, Uncle John's, and a place called gator boats. The big challenge for me is getting the sides right to efficiently use a kyak paddle. With some runners, I expect it to work out pretty well. I am already thinking about a cedar strip version similar to the Bullfrog, but longer and wider with pointy ends.

Pirouges do not have much rocker, like the racing canoes or rowing shells. Combined with the narrow beam, they are tippy and very fast. The idea is that they have to move a small amount of water to move foward.

I have a 10' Carstons Puddler and like it. It hides great, is very protable over a large dyke, and will carry my 270lbs carcas as well as a couple dozen dekes, and my possibles bag with coffee, Subway, shells, and the like. Not much more though. I have found that this is a great little boat to use when kneeling, I just wish the tracking were better. I also need more carring capacity. It works great as a layout boat. I wouldn't take it on a lake or river though.

Just some thoughts I've been exploring for a couple of years...

I'll get some pics up soon,

Scott
