The day started out not so good. Went to four different boat launches before I found one that didn't have to much ice so I could get the boat in. Kinda got a late start. Thank God! I left home at 3 am. Finally got set up around 8:30am. The divers wouldn't let me get the decoys out. They just kept coming. What a problem. I hope you enjoy the hunt.

This pr. of Redheads got a little to close.

Here is a pic. of River retrieving the first redhead of the day

Then this bluebill was following the wrong bunch right into the set.

River retrieving the bluebill but the bluebill was trying to piss her off It kept covering her eyes. HeHe

Next this flock of Redheads made a huge mistake. But now I'm done with the redheads. Its going to get hard picking out the ringers and bluebills

Now you are going to see some more redheads. They just kept coming. Let me know if you get bored. I really like this photo.

Then I took a pr. of Ringnecks. One of my favorite ducks.

Finally a drake wigeon got a little to close. I know its not a diver but it is a drake.

I know more redheads but I really like this picture. I could dream about this all night.

Some very fine shooting...
Both with the shotgun and more specifically with the camera.
BTW, tell me about your camera gear

Incredible day!
great photos,
great dog!

great boat and deeks and everything.

Just awesome (i am looking at my camera and myself in the reflection off the lens)
I need to do better than I have,

your story has inspired me to get out and get to it tomorrow.

Best to River,

Always a pleasure to read your works.

Gary, it's no wonder you had so many red heads flying by. It must due to the fact that your boats full of drake canvasbacks;)

The pic of the triples in flight is my favorite. Great stuff!

Amazing photos and story as usual! These are the best pics of the year, in my opinion!! Your stories and photos are what makes me want to start learning to hunt for divers! I've shot quite a few ringnecks, buffies, ge's, and one bull can around here, but all while hunting for mallards and wigeon. The bluebills, redheads, and cans are so beautiful and quite the daredevil pilots. What a day indeed!

I also thought the pic of the three redheads was the best! Reminds me of fighter jets flying in a tight formation!

Boy, were you in the right spot with the right light! Fantastic action shots. I happen to like the second shot the best. The trio of two drakes and the hen in the middle is awesome. Probably your toughest shot was the one coming head on. Great job on that one. Thanks for sharing those shots, Gary.

Great photos, Great hunt, I too love the scenery in all of your photos. You are a lucky man indeed..................Thanks for taking us along.

Gary,

Thanks so much for posting those fantastic photo's. I don't think I've ever seen apple-heads quite as pretty as you get them out there.

Take care,
Ryan

You must have trained River on how to care for birds!! Even in his mouth the birds are showroom quality! Thanks for sharing the story and pictures!! The picture with the 3 redheads slightly offset from each other is a remarkable photo!!!!
