Thinking of making some floats out of pipe. I thought of filling them with foam. What is the simplest way? Any good ideas. Moving a blind. (it bolts together in sections so it is flat ) John

The NRA's American Hunter March 2010 magazine had a "how-to" article about making a floating duck blind out of 24"x48"x12" marine dock floats. They cost about $75 each and have 434 lbs. of buoyancy each. Might be more cost effective to go that way. You can find them at www.dockbuilderssupply.com.

We tried that one year when the river was real low where we couldn't get the boats in. We bought 4'x8'x2" blue insulation foam at Lowes. Cut 2' wide sections and glued them together. Then we put a 2x4 on top and a 1x10 on the bottom. Used all thread to tie them together to make a 12x24x8' sq. pontoon. We carried the blind in one boat and the pontoons in another. When we got the location we lashed the blind panels and plywood sheet floor to the pontoons and waded in. We screwed the floor down to the 2x4's and bolted the walls together. We used 1" pipe down though holes in the pontoons so it could fluctuate with the river level. It was just a small 5'x10' blind for two but worked great.

Good luck,

Ed L.
