Portable 12 V Battery for Depth Finder

I am looking for recommendations on what type of 12 V battery I can purchase that is rechargeable and yet small and portable enough to bring in a canoe. I need something that can give me 4 to 6 hours of use before recharging.

Can you point me to a particular brand and vendor where I can purchase this type of battery.

If you intend on using it for anything more than electronics or lights, you want a 12-volt deep cycle marine battery. The smallest and lightest one I have been able to find is sold by Bass Pro Shops. It's about 9"x5"x7" and weighs 22 pounds, which is very light for a marine battery. (Bass Pro lists it at 24 lbs., but it weighs 21-15 on my scale.) When combined with a Minn Kota transom-mount trolling motor (30-lb. thrust), it will push my 15' square-stern Grumman canoe around about as long as I care to fish.

If its just the FF and maybe lights, go with what Scott is suggesting.
Don't forget an inline fuse.

Type in vexilar or Marcum into google and look for replacement batteries. These are what you want. The fish finders above are used for ice fishing and lightweight, and long amp hour is what you seek. These batteries are sold everyehwere and this will give you pictures of what you should be looking for.

I use the same style battery Scott points out. A little cheaper at Battery Plus stores.

This is a stretch, but you never know. I used to have a friend that worked for a medical equipment company and he HAD to change out the 12v batteries on baby incubators every so many months. These are about a third the size of a deep cycle and probably a fifth the weight. They were awesome for running trolling motors, etc. It might be worth asking any medical field friends you have or looking in your area for medical equipment companies.
