Possible Hip Issues?

My 8 year old labs seems have gotten “clumsy”: seems to trip easily when we are walking. Not all the time but enough that I noticed. Today she tripped crossing the street with my daughter, came close to ending badly for the pup
Is this a sign of hip issues? Any thought? She is otherwise her same healthy goofy self.

I raised a lot of labs in my day. It is most likely her hips. I would take her in and have a xray. If its early enough the vet can help her out with meds. Or you might want to check out her head. I had a great dog that was having problems that would be fine and then he would.Just fall to the ground. Hoped this helped.

Could well be hips but check for an ear infection. I had a Chesapeake in the past that developed an ear infection and completely lost his sense of balance even to the point of rolling up on his side while making a retrieve. Thought the dog was going to drown and had to go get it with boat.

Thanks, I thought about an ear infection. But she doesnt seem be very sensative about her ears and hasnt been head shaking But I will check them.

Thats kinda how she seems to be, walking along fine and then stumble over a stick or getting up onto the sidewalk.

She could be in the beginning stage of having seizures. My lab started falling down and then just hitting the floor shaking. Not fun to watch your best friend go through. But with treatment my dog hunted until he was almost eighteen. Good luck

No shaking or appearance of confusion, just stumbling in situations she never used to.

She hasn't been getting into your beer supply lol. I think if it get worse you should get everything check by a good vet. I seen dogs get like that with Lyme disease. Not sure if you have ticks there. Just trying to barn storm for you.

Happens to me, too! 7 year old lab/51 year old man--about the same stage of life, no?

Seriously, hope the pup recovers.

Yep, we're in the same stage of life!
Both of us still think we're young and the wife thinks both of us are pretty damn goofy too!

Anthony made a good point on the possibility of lyme desease. Had that also happen to same chessy with the symptoms you mention. Sounds like a vet trip in your future! If the dog did get into your beer at least the yeast is good for them or so I,ve heard!

Carl, Best of luck to you and the pup. We are going through some of that with my wifes' dog now. He is 12 and having seizures. Get your buddy checked out by a vet and at least you will know what it is not or what it is then ? Shiny side up..

As it usually goes, since I posted this she hasnt stumbled once!
I will keep an eye on her and make sure the doc checks her over good when she has her next visit.

Carl,

My 14-yo AWS developed "Old Dog Vestibular Syndrome" over the winter. Basically, a nerve becomes inflamed and causes vertigo. It generally self corrects after a few weeks, although he now has a permanent list to starboard.

Might be another possibility...

I'd definitely rule out the other conditions discussed above.

Good luck.
