Potential Carvers Corner improvements

Hey all

I have been wanting to add a few things to our Carvers Corner to make a more through reference section available for decoy makers of all skill levels, including but not limited to :
  • A pattern library. I think to keep this organized and consistant, it may be best to email me your pattern(s) and I can post it into a single thread as an attachment. There will need to be some kind of scale indication, such as an inch marker drawn in or a ruler in the picture. Since most don't have a scanner big enough for most sized birds, a picture taken at a precise right angle to the pattern is likely most practical. Otherwise, you can snail mail me a paper copy and I can take it from there
  • A how to on methods of resizing patterns (will make the above more useful)
  • How to's on various methods of foam decoys making, including but not limited to foam carving, foam from molds, and mastic/burlap application. I have been in contact with a couple individuals about such methods, but if you have experience and/or picutes of these, feel free to contact me and/or post them to a new thread in the main forum and I will later move them from there.
  • A through how to on going from pattern, to cut out, to an accurately carved decoy.
As always, threads on such subjects will start in the main forum, allowing for comments and follow up. Once the conversation has died back, I'll move the thread to the Carvers Corner, where it will be easier to find, and is still availabel for additional commentary/questions. If you have any more topics you would like to see added for you benifit, or you have a method you'd like to share, please share with us here what that is. I'd really like to see the reference built up for decoy makers of all skill levels.

Best

I too am thinking this is a great idea! We want-to-be carvers need all the help we can get to start out. Another thought I have is a reference photo section. I have seen in the past a request for a certain view of a certain duck& Boom, several of the great photographers here come thru! It would be nice to have some of these in one spot, instead of trying to sort thru all past posts. Different views~~ standing, swimming, heads up, feeding, preening~etc. I know it could easly become too large of post! Just a thought I had. Thanks.

It is a great idea . Here is a like to a page on my web site showing my process of making a decoy.

If you would like to use it you are more than welcome . I was a little lazy on the text. but I 'll have to go back and do it.

Day late and a dollar short...After prodding from John and Carl, I started a pattern thread on the Carver's Corner. Feel free to add your own patterns to this as well.

Thank you to Chuck and Carl for posting the flattie patterns. I'm hoping that pics will be posted of any decoys carved from my patterns......

I am glad to see more of a one stop educational posts to help teach others a good approach when trying make something that they have not done before. Also, include where or how to find and use the type of paints that can work well for what there are making. There seems to be on going questions about these subjects and it can help with the basics.

Anytime you need help with reformatting or resizing patterns, just let me know.
