problems with Cabelas?

"Eric,

My point was that you had $200 in gift cards.................what are you going to do, eat'em because you don't see a bargain? "

Huh? I thought we were discussing returns, especially the comical ones? No If you've got 200.00 in gift cards and can't find a bargain, send 'em to me I can always find a bargain. Hee Hee

Re: Gander Mt

When I visit my Mother in W PA I enjoy stopping by Gander MT. I like their store brand clothes. Comparing side by side with Columbia & other names I think you get more for less.

Re: Dicks

Here in RI it is the only store with any real firearms products selection.

I went to Dick's when they first opened here and went to look at some guns. Guy who worked there couldn't even take the gun off the shelf b/c he didn't have his pink card(i think) The clerk needs this in order to sell the guns. You do find some decent deals there from time to time though. The one in Freehold NJ used to carry alot of ammo. I used to go there for the Winchester AA loads for trap. Then all the sudden they had squat in stock. The fellow in charge of the sporting goods department actually told me that the state police stops in there like once a week and kinds hammered them about all the cases of ammo they had. Not sure if it is true but several other employees told me the same thing.

Pete, If you asked and they gave it to you thats fine. Waders that I use last 3 years at most But I'm very hard on them.If you used them little and the component failed thats okay. I get a little jumpy probably because of my job. I am the Dundee Bargain cave processor Which means I decide the fate of most of the things that are returned. I can't tell you the number of worn out boots that come in weekly. I'm talking 3-4 years old, sole peeling away after hard use in the construction business and then returned because they leak. Still its good for the occasional laugh. i.e. wader boots for over stocking foot waders returned because they leak (Were the drain holes your first clue) The 2 gamo .22 cal air rifles returned with"bad barrels" (.177 cal pellets in the box with them), The tree stand returned with the reason "Defective clamp, fell out of tree...twice". These people are rmed and in the woods or marsh with us eek!

Eric, Thanks for the attention last week with that garmin GPS mount that you priced for me, I could have done without the attitude, but hey I'm used to that when I'm in a store.

Never have really had a problem with PdC... I am they many times a year. I just leave POed because I leave empty handed...nothing that I really want...

I wasn't impressed with Mitchell SD, but....

".....So, you lose the chance to have someone who actually knows what they are talking about in exchange for a local kid out of high school who wants to pay for his beer or whatever."

Hey, what's wrong with working to pay for beer and whatever? What other good reason is there for working so hard?

in quality, pricing and service while also wanting the CHEAPEST PRICE....mutually exclusive "wants".....

Places like Cabela's wouldn't even exist in the World today if people were willing to pay for the "expertise" they expect from the BIG BOX stores....instead we'd still have those wonderul hunting and fishing stored owned and staffed by hunters and fishermen who know not only what works but more specifically what works in that area....

We gave that up, and the right to bitch about it, IMO when we fell in love with people like Cabela's and Dick's and Bass Pro....as the old saying goes...you get what you pay for.

That's just great humor!!!

I had good results with the Prairie du'Chein outlet, but the same thing about not stocking what I wanted and that was the decoys that I wanted weren't carried in stock. So, just this year I replaced the substitutes that I bought there. I did get good service.

Agree fully with "Don't bother" recommendation on Dicks. The one and only time I was going to purchase there was at the Madison Wi shop. I left all three boxes of decoys on the counter and left. There were something like 5 attendants within 10 yards and NOONE was going to offer to run that register - all of them were bucking for management material!!!! And not one said a word as I walked past them out the door. HAAA. Let em lug those back up the stairs after no one would help bring them down anyway.

I've been at the Hammond store and the Bass Pro near Toledo this year. But, I've spent much more via mail from Mack's and Cabela's and like when its outside my door when I get home!!!

Gotta luv that Big Brown Duck Truck!!!!!!

I only buy from the catelog... My dog knows more about hunting than 98% of those folks... We went to Dundee, ate some bufaloe burgers, looked at the wall mounts and fish tank... Thats it...

I buy from the catelog...

I buy hunting cloths from filson www.filson.com

I buy fishing cloths from www.orvis.com

Any of the Orvis & Filson outfitter shops I have visited have had knowelegble staff...

I had a pair of those Rocky boots with the soles that slough off. It was a materials problem of the manufacturer. Lots of boots did this. The 600 gram thinsulate goretex boots were, not suprisingly, discontinued. Cabela's gave me full credit towards a newer model boot with 800 gram thinsulate even though I didn't have a receipt, nor they a record. Cabela's rocks, Rocky sucks.
