If you like Merino wool like I do you will love this new manufacturer. Minus 33 http://www.minus33.com/merino-wool-baselayer-index.html was brought to my attention last year and I have recently bought and spent a week in their 400 gm long underwear. The quality is great and it's 100% merino wool, but the biggest benefit is that they are half the cost of some of the other manufacturers.

The top I bought is the 400 gm. long sleeved shirt with zip front and thumb holes at the ends of the sleeves. The zipper is long enough to be able to vent easily when you get overheated.

I also bought the 400 gm bottoms and they were as good as the tops.

Pete,
Thanks so much for the site and what looks like a great product. I noticed last year that I was starting to get cold while sitting in my blind. Even living down here in the banana belt it does get cold but I think it has to do more with age now.

George,

Yes I do. I bought a pair of Filson merino long johns maybe 7-8 years ago and they are in rags now. Actually I threw the bottoms away several years ago and still wear the tops - just for filler. The material is more of a loose weave and therefore degrades quicker. I wouldn't buy them again.

I also have a pair of Ice Breaker merino long johns that I still wear. Good quality but they only go as high as 260 gm (I think) and they are expensive - last time I looked the 260's were about $90 for just the tops. I would have bought them again if I hadn't found Minus 33.

The other brand that I was looking at is sold at King of the Mountain here and is from Osterland of Sweden. I saw some of their 400 gm stuff at the local Deer Classic in Madison and I was going to buy it but the tops alone are in the neighborhood of $120. Looks like good stuff but too expensive for me.

Al,

I know exactly what you are talking about. I call merino long johns "Handwarmers for your body". Wonderful stuff.

Thanks Pete, I've been wearing the Osterlund stuff, VERY nice, VERRRRY expensive. I got it before the big price increase, but it's just too high now unless you find a closeout at there website.
I'm going to try this new stuff, NOTHING I've ever used before can compare to wearing a base layer of Merino wool.
Thanks for the link.
