Progress update-Barn pics

It has been awhile since I posted and update here at Duck-boats. I have been working non-stop on the barn and wanted to share some of the progress made. I have a few things left to do as far as HVAC work and storage, but thought this rainy day would be a good time to share some progress pics.

At this point the barn still feels like a new pair of Blue Jeans. Not quite broken in and a little stiff. Hopefully as time goes on I can fill it up with meaningful stuff and make some new memories.

Again I wanted to thank everyone here at Duckboats for all the support throughout these past months. Your help has been instrumental in this process.

First floor looking in from the entry door.

Workbench Shot, cabinets were salvaged from a neighbors kitchen remodel.

Second floor loft. I have some work yet to do up here etc. But will have plenty of storage space for wood.

These little group of shorebirds hang over the door. They were made by my friend Kevin, my daughter picked them up out of the ashes of the fire. They are a little worse for the wear, but I thought they were worth saving.

That is some remarkable progress, Jode. It won't be very long and those wood chips will be flying and before you know it, one of those days you will be wearing a smile and not realizing it. Good luck. I, for one, will look forward to that first decoy that you carve and paint.

Jode, that looks great. I'm sure you will have no problem filling it up with great and new memories! Best of luck.

It Looks great!

I see the fire suppressor on the ceiling. Every thing looks nice . You need some wood shavings on the floor and a Fridge full of beer.
Post up some pics of your first work that you do in the new shop.

You've made a ton of progress in a small amount of time. Shop looks great. Congrats on fighting and defeating adversitiy.

Excellent job on the build. Can inquiring minds ask what the final dimensions on the build are? LxWxH

I am planning for a Workshop build in the back yard in the hopefully not too distant future. I am having a tree guy come this weekend (weather depending) to fell a couple of trees to make the room for the shop and a new extended driveway.

Looks like things are coming together Jode. Good to see.

Thanks you guys, it has been a process, but things are moving forward .

Tom, Can't wait to get it broken in, much to "clinical" feeling now. At least I have my same old dirty concrete slab ;>)

Doug, I have fire suppressors on each ends of the shop, top and bottom floors.

Kev, shorebirds look like antiques now, just have to make a new "T" bracket for them, one got lost along the way.

Chris barn is 16'X24' and about 17'-18' high. That gives 8' ceilings on both levels with 12" floor joists........

Jode,
I am sure I can send some junk to fill your shop. You know those things you might use, but in ten years haven't.

Jode~

Great to see these shots - and very happy that you're so far along. Putting a shop together is one of life's great pleasures - I hope you are finding it so, even though this was unplanned....

Are you doing anything different from your previous shop? I built my new shop in 2009-10. I anticipated most things and have been very pleased - but I still keep fine-tuning it as I use it. The things I use most are easiest to get to - and some things can stand to be a bit out of the way, and away from dust, etc. And, the older I get, the less I want to stoop over to fish out the stuff I need every day.

All the best,

SJS

Jode,

Workshop is looking good. My hat's off to you with your resilience of strength and determination in the rebuilding process. I'm sure it won't be long before you have a beautiful mess in there.

Thanks Bob, Steve and Ken.

Steve, I am doing some thing differently, the fire protection for one. I had plenty of extinguishers in the old shop, but if I am not there well, you know how that goes.

I also built a seperate room strictly for the dust collector. It keeps the noise and any fine dust away from the main work area.

I though about lighting beforehand. I have lots of light where I need it, I.E. over the benches and saws.

I installed all the window at 42" It gives room for most workbenches and tools to be under them while not blocking light or airflow. Also put Quad electrical boxes every 8' and 220 V lines where needed.

Final layout is still a work in progress. I have moved things around two or three times so far, and might move them again yet.
