Prop replacement

Looking for some opinions on a replacement prop.

I am replacing a prop on a 2 cycle 15hp Yamaha outboard. The factory prop is a 9.25X11 aluminum and I am happy with the performance from this prop.

I am considering purchasing a Solas brand prop as a replacement. Does anyone have any experience with this or other Solas prop? Any opinions on durability and/or performance reports?

I can get a Quicksilver Blackdiamond for 22.00 dollars more money (30%more than the Solas) but I'm not sure I'd really see any difference in performance.

Dave,
Went with a Solas SS prop on my 25hp Yamaha for the BB2 and like it. Believe it was the "New Saturn" model. It has taken some heavy use and abuse from stumps, oyster beds, and rocks, and is still in good shape. Still running stock aluminum on the 15hp.

Thanks Bill,

I think I'll stay with aluminum for this 15hp. I have run stainless on higher horsepower engines and really appreciate the better overall performance. For this engine, I'm staying with an aluminum so as to sacrafice the prop rather than the gears, when encountering what I know will be unavoidable prop strikes.

Just the price of running my local river. :>)

That's why I stayed with aluminum on the 15hp- I believe the prop shaft is little smaller, and would definitely prefer to replace a prop to that.

Dave,
I bought Solas props for a 15 hp Suzuki and a 28hp Johnson. They were both well balanced and lasted well.
Don't think you could go wrong, John
