Propane Powered Outboards???

I heard the problem is in cold weather, the fuel wouldn't flow at cold temps.
Makes sense to me,whenever my propane heater got low it wouldn't pump the fuel fully to the heater.

I guess in warm weather it would be good though

Many guys use and like propane powered ice augers for winter time fishing. Presumably those are used in cold temps. :>) :>) If the unit has been engineered properly, I see no reason one of these smaller outboards would not run just as well as the ice augers do.

Folks who have these propane powered augers love them. They are great as there is no gas leak getting on your gloves/hands/clothes/vehicle interior and their is no bad smelling exhaust which makes these great for ice castle and permanent ice houses.

I am guessing they easily meet even the Calif. emissions standards given that the exhaust is mostly water vapor and CO2. Wonder how quiet they are??
 
When I was working with the fisheries division we used a propane auger to drill holes to stock trout through the ice. It was an awesome machine, heavy, but it started first pull every time. They are quieter than a 2 stroke augers, and it smells like a grill getting ready for some hot dogs.

I wouldn't really want to be snuggled up next to a propane tank in a scull, and they are just as heavy as a 4 stroke. I'll stick with the old 2 strokes they are lighter and you can lay them on any side without worrying about oil leaking everywhere
 
The 2.5hp propane motors uses the small portable "stove" bottles that screws right into the motor or a portable tank, so it would actually take up same or less room in the skull boat.
 
The 1 lb tank would still make a good boom. Not that 2 stroke fuel wouldn't. I have seen the larger hp models on zodiacs around in the marinas by Nikki's parents boat.
 
The reviews on that site were not promising. I like the idea but I would be a little concerned after reading those.

We used a johnson jr 1.5hp two stroke a lot this year. light motors and stable square back canoes really worked well.
 
From the reviews, sounds like they have a serious QA/QC issue with the manufacturer, which appears to be a factory in (you guessed it) China.
