This is a Nate Quillin Monitor Boat, Bought new in 1880 by Sam Gay's Grandfather. He owned a farm at the end of Huron River Dr. In Rockwood Michigan. The boat was restored several years ago. Photo was taken on the Pte. Mouillee Marsh. Nate Quillin was Michigan's most famous early Decoy Carver and Duck Boat Builder. Love the early boats

What a great photo. That has to be a real thrill to pull the trigger on that beast.
Not to many people can say they have done that.

Thanks, Jim

Send me a private email, and I will send all the information about the book.
Pte. Mouillee Shooting Club, History & Decoys. It has a chapter on Punt guns.
Not my gun--- The Story punt gun was used in the Pte. Mouillee area long ago.

Thanks for posting. I remember you posting it on the scull restoration thread but it's nice for it to have a thread of its own and to see the other pic/info.

Yes I had a display at Westlake, A Nate Quillin Monitor boat and some of Nate's great decoys. I am a big Nate Quillin Fan

That is an amazing decoy, hollowed body and hollow Up into the head.
Most people have never seen anything like it.
Nate Quillin was an amazing Craftsman and lived in the Golden age of waterfowling, 1875 to 1900 was truly the golden age.
