Just curious, is anyone running puddle ducks on a long line ?

I'm looking for a way to cut down on weight in the small boat.....

I used to do it on rivers to make set up easier from shore. I would lay them out then pitch the weight out and let the decoys follow. This was smaller rivers and I would do maybe six or 8 per line then put a few singles in between.

We even took to leaving a rope tied off ahead of the weight on shore so we could just pull them in.

A friend of mine runs about half his puddlers on 6 block lines.

The spot he hunts is a bit unique as the cover is made up of rush islands. He essentially sets up a spread that covers 180 degrees, with 360 shooting.

He gets both decoying birds and pass shooting. The puddlers get the lee side more, divers the windy side. All his divers are on lines.

Adding decoys to a single line works fine if you do not hunt with a dog, if you do hunt with a dog they will at some point swim thru and get a tangled mess possibly putting dog in danger and you getting them out .

We use 3' droppers to attach to the long line with clips. The line actually goes down straighter than a single rig decoy so it is actually safer. The clips and the weight keep the motherline down.
