This post on behalf of Worth Mathewson.

Fifteen or more years ago the O'Loughlin family hired Worth Mathewson and Bill Pinces to put on a waterfowl exhibit for their sportsman show in Oregon and Washington. As part of the exhibit Worth displayed a battery (sinkbox) that he shot out of in New Brunswick and purchased it and had it shipped to Oregon. Worth also got the O'Loughlin family a punt gun and punt. He arranged the sale of the gun from a individual in Ireland. It is a very nice breech loading gun that shoots 8 oz. It comes with brass shells for loading and the tools needed. The punt was made by Bill and a friend of his. Worth supplied the plans for the punt that were in the 1800s book The Fowler In Ireland. Prior to the two shows Worth loaded two shells, put the punt in a lake and shot at a goose decoy at 50 yards. Had it been a real goose it would have been very dead.

The O'Loughlin family is taking offers for the gun and punt. This is a rare chance for someone to get something very special. Please send all enquires steven@otshows.com.

Here is a case where you can truly say: "they don't make em like that anymore". Where the ropes enter the bow, is that one solid block of wood there or how day do dat ?

If the punt and gun sells I am not getting anything from it. But I wanted for individuals on this page to be aware that it up for sale. I arranged getting the gun by placing an ad in the English magazine SHOOTING TIMES AND COUNTRY MAGAZINE wanting a punt gun. The ad was answered by a elderly wildfowler in Ireland. I often regretted not buying the gun for myself because it is a very nice one. Then I took the gun down to California to Bill Pinces and he and a friend made the punt for it. At that time they were making scull boats. The box containing the brass shells and loading equipment is a classic in itself. Rest assured this gun and punt is something rarely offered for sale. Hope someone on the page gets it! If I wasn't 82 and had a place to put it I would buy it myself.

Another thing: I don't know anything about the four barrel battery. Didn't know they had one. Looks like a muzzle loader? Don't know if they want to sell as a package with the gun and punt. Keep it mind that the gun is a breach loader with brass shells. It is a much better gun that a muzzle loader

I don't think there is much data to base a price on. It will come down to what the seller has in it and how motivated the seller and buyer are. If the buyer is from this site and wants to share that info I'm all ears!

I mean it would look super cool in my duck room... but not sure thats the best place for something this rare. How it sits is the way it should be displayed but that doesnt mean I don't want it. I just wouldnt even know where to start when making an offer. Hell, it may not even be at a price point I could even afford. Im just really not sure about any of it, but its super cool and rare.

I don't think the O'Loughlins have an idea of what it is worth. They are just fishing for offers. I do know I got the gun and punt for them cheap. If I recall it was about $3000. I don't have any idea of the current value. If they put it up in one of the big gun auctions it might go for a bunch? Breech loading punt guns don't come up frequently. Most are muzzle loaders. If I was trying to buy it my offer would be in the $5000 to $6000 range.

Thats fair. As bad as I would love this, I honestly am not sure a corner basement office is the place for something this cool. Let me think on this a bit. Thank you thank you thank you for this insight.

Congratulations. By the way, I can reset your old account credentials if you need. I see you registered again and you were an active member in the past. Unless there are two Thomas Wilkins here. At any rate, I look forward to seeing more of this most interesting boat. One thing is for sure, a lot of folks took interest in the media posted about it.
