My Brother in law has a cottage in Canada what is required/involved in getting my pup across with me if I go for a visit? I know you guys will know.

From your vet, get an animal health certificate. They are typically good for 60 days I believe, so get it just before you go across. it states that the dog is up to date on all vaccinations, etc.
Some immigration officers may ask to see the document, others won't. I crossed at both Port Huron, and the Detroit/Windsor port, and neither guard was worried about the dog. (all they wanted was their money for the gun permit)

We crossed about 6 times this summer and were only asked to see the papers once and that is with a truck with 9 dogs on it rabies is a must if they do decide to look and they want unopened dog food made and packaged in the USA if you have some opened they will take it.

does it depend which way your traveling??? tell them the cows were raised in alberta an slaughtered in washington and packaged and mexico and fall under items from NAFTA. lol. what the border agents do some times makes little sense, and it depends on how tough they want to be. Northern Idaho into BC and back never asked for papers in either direction, or about the dog food. Seriously though they have a tough job and i am glad thay are there.

The USA has thier stuff together we have crossed at Fort Erie (Buffalo) never any problems and Sarnia no problem the only place we were asked anything was at Windsor and it was entering the US and he wanted to know about the dog food and didn't care about the dogs themselves even up at Sault Ste Marie was no problem.

Good luck at the crossing. When I used to run hunt tests, there was a test outside Windsor each year. All we were instructed to do is have handy a vaccinations list from the Vet. Never was checked as far as I can recall, but that was years ago.
By the way, noticed that you list "LaSalle, MI". I lived in Temperance, MI from '86 to 2000. My wife's and my favorite restaurant was La Fiesta on US24 aka Telegraph. Been there?

Yes, I have, The crossing was hassle free. I grew up in bedford at smith rd an Lewis Ave., After college my wife and I spent 3 years in Monroe and then 10 years at Smith Rd. and Whiteford center

We crossed at heuron for the grand several years ago. When we pulled up with a dog trailer, they immedately knew we where going to Godrich for the trial. After showing every dog's health certificate, we where pulled over to the side, for every peice of our luaggae to be inspected, every dog removed from its crate on the trailer and checked, every cubbiehole and compartment checked (they freaked when we had a pill bottle of .22 blanks for a dummy launcher, the launcher had been cleaned out, but the pill bottle of blanks forgoten). Once all checked ok, we where sent into immigration to stand for an hour. They knew where we where going, they saw our papers, and still detained us for almost 2 full hours. And we didnt bring a gun! travis

You should have just went into your "Larry The Cable Guy" routine..the customs guys at the spot we cross gave us a little crap and I started talking like Larry and they started laughing and trying to do an imitation of him too..thirs sucked cause they couldn't stop saying "AY" after every sentence. They passed us through quick then. I was gonna do my Earnest T Bass impression but figgered they were too young to remember him.

As far as places lived; I too lived in Monroe for a couple years before moving to Lewis and Dean.
Where do you duck hunt? Point Mouillee? That is where I used to do most of my duck hunting.

Yes she's 6 months old, My "AHEM" GRIFFON is 4 years old and just hitting her stride I'd say my hunting is pretty evenly distributed between Pnte. Moulliee, Lakefront/woodtick and Harsens Island

I shouldn't assume, so I will ask, do you hunt upland game with her and what type? Great photo by the way.
I hunted WoodTick, but never Harsens. Always thought about doing it, but never got around to it. When you have the chance, let me know what the hunting is like at Harsens.

Just a little zinger, telling the breeds apart can sometimes be difficult. She is a great upland dog at least for me. She'll get a workout on Sat as I 'm hunting Dove in Ohio which she loves in particular. I'll try to take some pics. She does well on pheasant and chukar. Never had her out on Pats or timberdoodles but she's always pointing snipe at the Pointe so she'd probobly get the hang of it quick.

If she's pointing snipe in the marsh, she surely would do well on grouse and timberdoodles. Time to give it a try!?

It is amazing how many game farms have popped up in the home state since I left.

The game farm is Brad Dysenger's Thorne Bottom, South of Defiance OH. Best farm I've hunted and I've been to more than a few. The promised Dove pics are Starting a new thread.

Hunted there with some trap shooting buddies at there invite 10 years or so ago, thats what got me started doing this crazy hunting thing. prior to that I was a competitive trap shooter and hi power rifle league shooter but didn't hunt. Its truly the best preserve I've hunted and at last count I've tried more than 15. http://www.thornbottom.com/index.htm
