Question for owners of Roy Boats

I'd vote for finding some fiberglass panels, I had one with
luan flaps and they didn't hold up well. a fiberglass panel with an angle bolted to the back to help it stay rigid would be great.

if you have to paint it, you must prime it first, otherwise the paint blows off at warp speed

I agree Tom it's really the only way to go . Thanks

This is how I went also, 2 layers FRB epoxied together. Wood held up on my ply deck but the aluminum deck killed the first set of plywood flapper boards in about 4 years. Water would collect and stay under the ply, the aluminum didn't breath at all. Its about 3 years on the FRB flappers and they are still mint.

In fact I'm so pleased on how well they've held up I'm planning on using doubled up FRB for my replacement sillys. The 1/4" ply birds are delaminating rapidly. Should be a nice compromise of weight and rigidity and be almost indestructible.

[font=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]I guess I missed something, never seen a red one.

[font=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]They only use red ones in the midwest, never on the east coast.

how fast are these boats, really

It does 20 mpg with a 9.9 2 stroke.
With a 25 hp 2 stroke it does 38 mpg.

Way too fast for me in a 12' boat that doesn't weigh 150 ibs LOL

Hey Scott
I'd rather just do it in fiberglass if I can but thanks for your advise and info on what worked for you.

I'm thinking I'd leave the 9.9 on there, less weight and 20 mph is the dark is pretty darn fast anyway.

I had a friend who had a little 14' glass boat and had a 40hp on it. I only rode with him once.

Speed doesn't kill. Mistakes do.... pin it to win it.

Im still waiting on this new custom prop for the low box 54 is a great speed to reach

I do not have a Roy boat. This place is off route 109
Bob you may want to stop by show them a few photos of what your looking for. They have a fiberglass panel that can be cut to make flap boards. I do not know what the material is called. www.reinforcedplasticslab

I only follow Roy Boat discussions for the humor, but have to ask.... would they go as fast in Minnesota, or is it a Jersey thing?

I have friends from Jersey, so I get it :)
