Question for the doggie docs?

My 6 year old male lab (Woody) has been drinking water like crazy. It just seems like he can't get enough. I fill his bowl and he will drink it all. Then if I fill it again he will drink it. He is not excersizing any more than normal and the temps here have been cool. A friend mentioned Diabetes. I guess that we will be visiting the vet soon for bloodwork. Any input???.......................Kevin

Hey Kevin,
I'd get some blood work and check for diabetes, kidney issues, and possibly cushings. On any meds now? Had any steroids/cortisone lately? That will get them drinking sometimes. Hope it turns out to be nothing. Keep us informed.

Thanks Brian and Paul. He's currently not on any meds at all. He will be going to see the doc early next week................Kevin

Just what Brian said, but be prepared that the first round of bloodwork may lead to more specific tests with more blood and/or urine. Diabetes is not a simple problem that can be "fixed", rather it is managed. Need lots of good communication between you and your vet. Good luck and let us know what the outcome is. Alex
