Looks great!! after you copy the url and it goes onto the post... hit enter and then add another pic. they will then come up under each other instead of side by side.
Great looking boat

Charlie,

That looks great. It really modivates me to take my time and pay attention to the details like you have.
Very nice almost a shame to cover it in a drab color. ALMOST!

Question for you and anyone else that is building. When starting on bulkhead install my thinking has been this.

Stitch the hull and sides. Then cut and install the transom and the nose at the size of the plans. Fit the rest of the bulkheads with a template to be sure of proper fit.

How did you go about fitting your bulheads and more importantly how did you start your first one?

Did you go with a standard curve on the deck?

Hey Brandon, What part of your build are you up to? I did what most people said not to do. I went right from the plans to my bs1088. The deck knees I made a template for. Dont forget any 2 components that are the same cut and plane together. I spread my hull to the demensions of the plans and installed the bow than the transom and than worked from the bow to the stern. As far as the curve to the deck....I liked what Eric did on his Scaup so I followed his directions on how to increase the crown of the deck. Erics pages are my first "go too" when I am in need of guidance and then of course, the"World of wisdom" that is this site!!!!!

Charlie,
Thanks for the fast reply.
Looks like we think similarly as thats what I had in mind.

I am stitching the sides today. Not bad considering I did the scarfting Thursday afternoon.

Erics build is my first stop as well. In fact I take the laptop up to the garage with me and turn on the music. If I have a questions I pull up the page and look at his build. If I still have questions I do a search of the board and look in Devlins book.

Charlie,
Since you increased the hight / cuve to the deck. Did you run the two sections of rear transom and the rest of the motor well wild as far as height and cut it down when setting the curve of the deck for the rest of the boat?

Thanks.
Brandon

P.S. Yes I am at the point of figuring out the motor well. Wish someone would have told me the transom plans already had the 17 degree tilt built in I spent hours thinking about that today to find out that if I cut it to specks and set it it was correct.

Brandon,I used a batten on the the crown when setting my lines to wood before I cut and then added 2" to that. After I dry fit the bulkhead, I positioned a batten at each bulkhead and "eyeballed" and adjusted until I had the crown that I wanted bow to stern and stern to bow, took me quite a while. When I finished I left it overnite and looked again, satisfied I marked and cut. Hope I explained this right.

Charlie,
Makes sense to me but then again its after midnight and I just came in covered in sawdust. All my templates for the bulkheads are completed and I am happy with the fit. I will recheck all the measurements in the morning and be sure I am happy then transfer and cut the 3/4.

I am increasing the crown on my boat by two inches at the highest point so that take the crown to 4" total at the widest point of the boat. I am using what I think is an easier way of setting my crown. Devlin outlined it in his book or atleast when I read his book I came up with this idea so I think its in the book.

I will take pictures tomorrow.

Do you guys sand and plane the edges first and then fill all the seams with wood flour and epoxy or fill first and than plane and sand?????Same question for the router. What size roundover bit??

I went ahead and planed and sanded all the edges first and will go back and fill any gaps with wood flower mixture. It will cause me to resand after the cure but I think I will get a better fill on the gaps by taking any excess wood out of the way. I haven't been able to work on it all this week so I am real anxious to get back to it tommorow. Anytime I go out to the garage for something else I have to stop and look her over. Wife tells me I keep getting lost in the garage. Can't wait to get back to it. Plan on being out there all day!

Charlie,
Not that far on mine yet. Bought a few round over bits and a flush cut for fitting the deck.

Keep asking questions it keeps me from having to do it.

Thats funny about you being MIA... to the wife, I built a Hybrid and all my wife had to say was "I have a hard enough time dealing with hunting season, and now this!!!" They just dont understand!

Brandon, re the crown. Looks good on paper...but:

If you have a dog and the dog jumps onto the bow of the boat from the marsh/beach, it'll have a hard time keeping it's balance. Dogs have a very tough time on any uneven surface. Ditto for humans in an icy/rainy/wet condition.

If you build a crown, strongly suggest some hardcore anti-slip material.

Just some 2 cents from the field.

Charlie...first rate man, first rate! Looks great and you're rolling right along. Take a look at Grizzly Grip if you decide to do the crown on the front deck. Its a truck bed liner that is very "rubbery" and easy to spray with a regular undercoating gun.
