Real Names

I have recognized since the new page format that alot of the newer members are not using their real names. The one thing I have always liked about this page is that everyone here used there real identity and never hid behind some nick name. Just a reminder for the new people that it may be a good idea for you to post using your real names. It would also be nice for you to put in your profile where you are from and a little background info. I think the older people on this site have always thought of this group as a family and that is what drew me to this group 5 years ago. After all we all share a common passion and should not have anything to hide from each other.

Just my opinion, was wondering if anyone else shared the same.

Unfortunately that seems to be all the rage these days. I can't say that I have never used a screen name, but on the forums that I spend most of my time, I use my real name. Like you, I prefer to have a name. But then...... I could be wrong.

It seems like a lot of the lurkers are signing up with Refuge like names but the regular participants use their names. At least that's what I thought. Maybe I need to pay closer attention. When you register it CLEARLY states we prefer real names:

"Using your real name is appreciated and generally expected. Please leave the "DuckGod" and "KillEmAll" screen names to other sites."

I guess some choose to ignore or overlook the above simple two sentences. I thought we were pretty clear.

Me personally I find myself far less inclined to respond to anyone who doesn't use their name. I have no problem when someone somehow incorporates where they are from with their names or at least uses part of their real name, but I really don't have much to say to someone who calls themself 3shots3dead, etc.

For anyone who has registered with a name other than what your parents gave you feel free to change it in your user profile.

Todd,

I think that 98% of the regular forum participants feel the same way. I know I do and like Eric, I tend to pretty much ignore posters that are not willing to give their real names.

After being around here since 1998, I have noticed that most of the people who use "Stage Names" tend to be new to the DHBP Forum or rarely drop by from some other site.

As for me, I don't find a need to go to any other sites (except eBay and Auction Arms) Just trying to keep up with this forum keeps me busy. :^)

I'm glad that you brought this subject up Todd and it was good to hear Eric's comments as well as the others. There realyy is no need (at least around here) for anyone to use a nick name, we have pretty much alraedy given our friends around here nick names! Haha.

Merry Xmas to all.

Sounds like this post is directed my way . My real name is Jim Rudd . As you stated correctly I am new here and I did overlook the real name in keeping with the forum rules . I have used RuddyDuks as my username on four other forums for many years and I do not hide behind it in anyway .

Josh Ward is my 'real name' Its just a habit to type in jwkimber.....I'm sure some of you have seen that handle on other sites....

I can't say I don't use a screen name on other sites but do use the same one so everyone knows who I am. As most know I used just my First name on most post for the last few years but this help set me aside for the other "Robert's" we have on the board. like Eric said it seems pretty clear to me that you are requested to use your real name on this site it has always seemed to keep more of the trouble makers away (IMHO) since they don't want people to know who they actual are. I have always like the fact that we used are real names and had a little about where we all are and I agree it has more of a family felling that way

I don't use my last name as I am wanted in several states ; )

I figured everyone knows who I am anyway - the kook who posts too much about his boat.

I'd love to see where everyone lives. Great posts are made about bird species and hunting conditions and yet it's a little frustrating because I don't know if they are west coast, east coast, midwest or south. Especially when a person has a question about a boat, it's hard to gauge what their needs are based on their general question(s) as they tend to leave out their hunting environment.

So, I will (try to) figure out how to add my last name.

I dont use my real last name at all.... not sure why other than I have been known as Dave Shady for such a long time it has just stuck. Its the same name I use on anyplace on the WWW.... I think ill change my last name for real someday that way people quit spellin it LARSON instead of the correct LARSEN!

I do get phone calls and they ask for Dave Shady and I got a check for a boat one time for $4000 made out to Dave Shady........ bank took it :)

I agree I dont like the Duck whacka, duck stackah or Mallard muncher names either but I cant vote since mine is considered most likely the same.

I'll have to echo all the previous comments. I too am much more inclined to respond to a real name. I'll also add that it is nice to know at least the state that a poster lives in when checking his/her user profile. I think it adds to the family feeling and it sometimes helps one to respond to a post when you know the area of the country they are from.

I added "Huntin" to my name when I first got here because there were other "Daves" using just their first name and it was a way to control confusion. With the new format having the option to "append signature to post" it's SO easy to use my full moniker.

To those that wish to continue to use a nick name, please note that (at least on my part) I will harbor no hostility, but now you are aware of our preference concerning this.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!

along the same lines....

should it bother me when people list things for sale and they've never even posted on this site (or the old one that i can remember)? I may not have been on here as long as others, but it's been several years at least. I feel part of this just like most of us do...and it irks me for some reason...

Andrew- I agree with you on generally knowing what part of the country people are from, to offer more specific help to their questions. I wonder if people would or wouldn't want to post their state- (city optional) and if not maybe their flyway??? That'd be a pretty cool idea to generalize their location...

Merry Christmas to all---Gaddies have arrived in great numbers, but are beig rather coy so far--seem to play the incoming tide----teal and others are still around----will brave the big blow tomorrow, hoping for a few dumb ones to come visiting!

I think Harker and I both have the same favorite duck - the slow dumb one. Have you guys been having abnormally mild weather this season?
