OK..... SO I have gotten 2 rooms completed using reclaimed oak from 100 year old barns... It is T&G plank that I face nailed with square drive 2" course thread screw with a trim head. I followed the advise of someone on here I used Waterlox. I applied 3 coats of sealer, and top coated it with satin. This is still rough/dirty/circle sawn (or whatever you wish to call it). So... How does one actually clean this or keep it clean? Waterlox claims to stand up to water... is this true? After drinking, Kodi watered the floor. Of course when he sleeps, he drools a little. I was fully aware of these concerns when we went this route; just wondering how this will really hold up.

Waterlox is designed to repel water on the surfaces it is applied to. if Kodi's water dish is on the floor i would keeps something under it to keep the water from pooling on the floor. The issue is if the water makes it through the floor it could get under and cause cupping.

Remember the Waterlox can be re-coated at any time without sanding.

Did you do any sanding prior to finishing? I know the beauty of these floors is in irregularity and a few saw marks, but remember the beauty of the reclaimed wood goes all the way through. If you find that the floors are too much to keep clean you can undertake the arduos task of sanding out the rougher saw marks and re-finishing.

The wood you used for your floor spent the first 200 years of life attached to the outside of a barn exposed to the weather, Now that they are inside and treated they should outlive us all.

As far as cleaning there are a number of hardwood cleaning products available.

Just keep the Kodi puddles down to a minimum to prevent cupping.

Remember, Phil, that your Pool 9 buddy, Kodi, is just adding character to the wood when he drools! Great looking room. You have good reason to smile with all the hard work you have done.

I used it on the countertop at my sons place. Butcherblock with an undermount sink. He reports no problems. Waterlox is good stuff. Your place looks great.

Clean with a damp cloth or swiffer. Never ever use amonia or amonia based cleaners. They will remove the finish. My flooring is rough in areas and no issues. The only time I clean is when visible discoloration from lets say mud season and that is only in the front entry. My whole house is wood floors except bathrooms. No problems after 11 years. I would discourage standing water because wood does expand and contract and water will finds its way into joint where no sealant was applied. We do not wipe our floors when we come in with wet shoes and no issues. Just put a mat for dog bowl and you will have a wonderful floor for life.

Kodi's water dish is on a mat, but he seems to drain about a cup of water from his chops after drinking while walking about the house! LOL

I only sanded the floor with 80 grit to knock off any sharp points and burrs.
