Refinishing LLBean decoys

I just picked up a dozen LLBean brant and 7 black ducks and was looking to see what i should do to them. Is there any type of sealer i should use before i start painting them? or and type of paint i should use or stay away from?

The search function is your friend. Lots of older discussion on different ways to rehab Beans

I fill any major voids with TB III or epoxy & cork dust. Apoxy Sculpt will help with slightly broken tails as long as they are loose.

Seal with 1:1 spar:mineral spirits in a 5 gallon bucket, submerge until it stops bubbling.
Let them sit for the week
Seal again
Sit for another week
Prime & paint with latex exterior paint

Thanks for both the question and the advise. I have some that need attention also. But heck they only cost me $6.00 each from LL a few years back. Boy I miss that employee store.

I would sand (60 or 80 grit) quickly then seal with a soaking coat of Spar Varnish. I usually paint gunners with latex house paint. The full step-by-step for Brant is on my site at:
