remembering my great uncle Paul

I had a great hunt this morning and was fortunate enough to shoot a nice big old canvasback and also a nice pintail. I shoot almost no cans so I thought it would be nice to cook it tonight like my now passed great unce did. Uncle Paul lived in Wilmington Delaware and duck hunted most of his life. My Grandma would tell me how good his Orange glazed canvasback was so I went to it and made it for dinner. I cooked my wife the pintail and I got the canvasback. Glazed with orange marmalade and honey and served with asparagus and wild rice. I had to enjoy my favorite brew, Sam Adams winter Lager. The meal was as good as the hunt. I hope my great nephew will get the chance to enjoy the same meal.

Your right, the cooking and enjoying with family is the cap on a great hunt.

That picture is making me hungry. I love a roast duck.

I really love this part of the hunt!
I really enjoy all the preparation and being on the marsh or lake and shooting ducks,
but being able to actually eat, enjoy and share with others what we can bring home and reminiscing
(is that a real word?)
is like the icing on the cake!

Mmmmm.... Looks good. It is hard to beat roasted duck. Good memories with that meal I'm sure.
