Removing paint from aluminum boat?

I just picked up an 88' Grumman 14' deep v. The boat is a little beat up and the old green paint is flaking off. I was wondering which is the best way to remove and then paint this boat. I'm not sure where to start.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Eddie

Ed,
Lou is the expert on this stuff. Here is an old thread that discusses his method, along with others

If you want to avoid the dirty job of removing the paint, talk with a local collision shop and find out where they take their stuff for media blasting. It usually quite reasonable and fast. The collision shop that shares our parking lot uses a place about 5 minutes away and they did a complete media blast on a Corvette and had it back to the collison shop in the same day.

The other option is disk sanding, hand sanding or hire a neighborhood kid.

Once that's done, follow the tutorial on our website: scroll down to...Boat Painting.... painting an aluminum/fiberglass boat.

Holler with any questions.

Paint remover for aircrafts (aluminum skin) works great.
Apply, wait, powerwash.

I used a 2 part etching primer, nasty stuff but the best adhesion for salt water boats. Add you favorite top coat.
