Rio Royal Steel Report

Used about 2 boxes out the case of Rio Steel from a case I bought before last years season. These are 3", 1 1/4 oz #3s that I got from Able Ammo for $80.00 onsale.
So far, I love these shells, no misfires, hard hitting and seem to pattern really well out of my Berretta. I'd definately buy another case if I could find them again. No one online has had them this year.

Carl, do they smell like amonia and smoke pretty good? I shoot a few boxes of 28ga Rio's every year and they give me a slight headache. They are decent shells and the price is right.

Nope, smell just like any other shotgun shells I have ever shot. No more smoke either.

When I was on the rifle team way back in my freshman & sophmore years of college, we use some fancy subsonic match .22 ammo. It had a funky smell to it because of the fancy powder they used in it. Most expensive .22 ammo I ever shot!

Carl forgive my ignorance, but where are they made? I once shot a coupla boxes of Union ultra velocidad made in Mexico at doves and they did ok. I wouldn't buy anymore and the ones I shot were given to me. You and Lee shouldn't be sniffing gun barrells anyway as there are certain things you just shouldn't sniff.

I do like the way that paper hulled Federal Champions smell when fired ,but I don't sniff the barrells.

Best,
Harry

They are made in Spain. From what I understand, Rio is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, ammo companies in Europe. Their target loads are supposed to be really great, used by alot of competitive shooters overseas.

I shot the same loads last year, well my last two boxes anyway. They are definitely my favorite steel shot, like Carl said hard hitting, greast patterns, I shoot a Beretta O/U. I couldn't find them this year. Carl I got mine from Cambells Hardware in Roberstdale, but htey didn't have any this year. You should try there pigeon loads, unbelievable on dove and quail, high brass #8's
