All,

I am arranging a clean-up of a short section of the Rooster River in Bridgeport, CT. This section of the river is full of ducks mating and nesting right now. I would like to clean this section up and see that the ducklings have a decent chance of survival. The city and state officials have pledge their support in having the debris we remove from the river QUICKLY hauled off and dealt with properly.

We NEED support in the following ways:

Man power- These are our waterways and our wildlife nurseries. We should be willing to put in the man-hours to get this done... and more if possible.
Canoes- Canoes can help us float our the filled bags and larger debris to collection points.
Gloves- Need I explain this one. The average homeowner along this stretch of river is not going to grab trash/garbage with their bare hands.
Plastic/paper leaf bags- Obviously, once we collect the trash we'll need something to put in it.
Bottled water- Just in case someone gets thirsty
Water Safety Person- Anyone a lifeguard and willing to walk along the bank and keep our volunteers safe? Anyone know a lifeguard willing to do the same?

Anything you can do to help will make a difference!! Please PM me asap with your support.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Mike

FOLLOW-UP

I received a letter of full support from the City of Bridgeport Public Facilities coordinator. He stated let me know when you're finished and I'll make sure the trash is picked up. I also heard fro mthe local representative...she is going to be there to support us as well. Have yet to hear from the mayor's office.

The important information is... 28APR13 1-4pm

I will post more details as I confirm them.

Can I count on y'all for support?

Mike,

Try getting a hold of a local BSA troop. They will usually gather and support something like a clean up. You can also go the the local High schools because the kids need some sort of community service to graduate. CHeck with local marinas and boating groups. We have several here on LI that do a lot of back bay and beach clean ups.
Good luck.

For what its worth, we get free "town" plastic leaf bags when we clean up our river. (W. Branch Ausable R.) That way its free to drop off at the dump. Maybe check with the Highway Super. for those. Also try any kayak/canoe shop in the area for support.
Good luck to you and don't give up. Sometimes it takes time.
