Root pintail for christmas

What a gift to have received. You are one very lucky man. How did she know? Did you give her a hint?

Great bird! I am fortunate to have a few Root birds and find them to be fantastic and accurate representations of the real thing.

It started a couple months ago. I was at the action George had at his house. I picked up four Mallards from his hunting rig. Then I was at the Easton show and picked up A six slot bag from David Clark. I said something to my buddy who knows George that it would be nice to have a pair of Pintails to fill the bag. My friend then text my wife and told her about my idea. George had a Pintail from the chesapeake challenge and it may be his last decoy that he is going to make. It was a complete surprise Christmas morning. I have not got to talk to George much only just meeting him at the action but I feel lucky that I got this decoy. It is funny that I didn't know about George Root until the action. I grew up two miles from his house and would ride bike through his neighbor hood. The only problem is the Pintail is going on the shelf so i still have to slots to fill in the decoy bag.

What a great gift! My wife gave me one of George's goldeneyes for a wedding present when we got married. I just floated it Christmas eve and shot a beautiful drake Buffie over it and had two whistlers go by upriver but not work the rig. I don't float it every time out but it does get some honest use. I almost hate to use it some days but I feel it would be a disservice to George not to!

Mike - When John said he has a "few", he's being modest. He too was at the auction at George's. Our group of gunners and carvers are big fans of George and have great respect for him as a carver. He's one of the best gunning decoy makers in my humble opinion...
