I need to cut a new bottom panel for my old layout boat.
The bottom is basically a large oval made from 4 separate pieces.
My initial plan was to remove the bottom and use the pieces as patterns to trace the shape on to the new plywood for the bottom.
Now that I am in to it the bottom panel is in worse shape than i anticipated and I am not sure I can remove it without destroying it and making it unusable as a pattern.
Would it be possible to use a flush bit in a router to cut the new pieces using the existing panel edges as guide? Would tear outs be a problem?
My other option would be to make paper or cardboard patterns and use them to transfer the shape to the new
plywood and cutout with a circular saw.
