Rutgers Institute hunt, Kalamazoo, MI area

I would like to invite you to a mixed style hunt in the Kalamazoo area the Saturday after thanksgiving. I talked to Bryan last night and we are looking to have layout hunting, blind hunting and even some sculling. The birds in this area have been a bit sketchy this season, but it should be a good time. I'm not promising limits. We will be able to cook some food, share stories etc. FOr those of you cho came to the Deltafest last year, it is on the same lake we held the event at. We will hunt all day, so you will have a chance if nothing else to try your hand at these different types of hunting if nothing else. We have a few boats ready for this, but you are welcome to bring yours. We will be setting LOTS of decoys. Any takers? I have some room, albeit spartan conditions for a few to sleep.

If you aren't from around here, the Kalamazoo area has some good places to shop for the ladies including a few malls, and a fair amount of antique/craft stores, as well as some good eats if you wanted to bring the wife and make a weekend out of it.

This will be held in a public hunting area, so you will be able to hunt Sunday, but will be on your own.

Any Takers?

Hey Paul,

I'll for sure be working Saturday morning, might be able to make it later in the day, but won't know for sure until friday of that week. If you'd like, I could drop off some geese ahead of time...just make sure everyone knows they are CANVAS, not KEVLAR.

Sounds like fun, wish I could say yes to the whole day...

We'll be hunting till dark Chuck. It's not far from the launch to pick you up, and there is good cell coverage. Nice offer on the decoys. I'm sure guys would appreciate seeing them in person!

Paul,

That sounds like fun! Too bad I'll be out of town with the family - and doing a little deer hunting:) Good luck and stay warm.

Dave, sorry to hear you wont be able to make it. We'll be back carving again soon.

Kristan. will you be coming up the morning of, or should I consider a space in the guest house spoken for? Glad you can make it. Look forward to seeing the boat.

I would prefer to head up that evening...Kal is only about 2 hours or so from the Fort Wayne...I only have about 7 handcarved divers to hunt over and a shoverler...Will be bringing a few plastics...I know plastics is a dirty word but I don' have the 5 blacks and 4 mallards I carved this year ready...I might try sealing the blacks tonight and painting them over the weekend...Just give me your address and I will pop it in the Garmin...If there are any flats of shallow shorelines to hunt I might bring a half dozen full body goose decoys to set out...Will be bring my dog, BG...Can't forget my Black Girlfriend...

Paul,

I was hoping you'd be able to put this together. Sounds like a blast. Unfortuantley I'll be enroute home from Florida that weekend. Hopefully I can catch the next one.

Take care,

Ed

I really would have liked to join in. I already have my MI license for the year. However, my Kazoo family members will be in Ohio for the holiday weekend and my sis-in-law is due to give birth so I can't break away. Maybe next time.

Guys,

Don't worry about bringing a bunch of decoys if your coming. Just bring your hand carved decoys that you'd like to float. If it's a diver it'll need a shrimp clip on it or it's own weight with atleast 10 feet of line. Same goes for puddlers. See you on the Saturday following thanksgiving !

LEE HARKER if you don't come up here and hunt with us I'm going to kick you in the nads the next time I see you !

I will try to make it but will know more on Thanksgiving. If you still have room, a roof over head and dry ground to sleep on is not spartan.

My initial reply was that I would know more the closer to Thanksgiving we got but I already know I won't be able to be there.

Bryan

Don't count me in, at best I am a maybe for the afternoon. I'll try to drop off a few geese with Paully sometime before the hunt.

... or it's own weight with atleast 10 feet of line.

I don't know if you really want my weights...I have "Greenie Weenie, Tree-Hugger" weights...Lead free and contain recycled materials

So who is actually going to make it ????

I'm planning on it. I can bring a few hand carved blocks, set up on a long line. I can/will bring my Broadbill boat too, if needed.

To all the participants showing up...I will be there...It really doesn't matter about the food...I will hopefully shoot a few more birds between now and then and bring some duck poppers to suck down during lunch...
