Saginaw Bay?

Hey Guys I am heading to Fishpoint Lodge for the first time next Friday and wanted to see how the guys have been doing this year in the Bay. Heard the water is down and that is concerning. Looks like cooler weather moving in so I am hoping for a push of birds. Any reports would be great. Thanks and good hunting.

It's pretty slow right now in mid-southern Michigan. The local ducks are either very educated or have moved out. We did see a push of geeese and wood ducks move through. The big push usually starts a week after you'll be up. There will be some divers in the area, and they will give you some chances.

Last year, we went up to Fish Point Lodge just about this time and had some decent shooting. The lodge was really cool, and the food was good.

Good luck to ya,

Scott

We hunted at FPL the 14th. Friday had a North wind, there was water, and plenty of birds coming in from the bay, guys had limits with mixed species. Saturday the wind shifted to the South. I couldn't believe how fast the water left. We ended up being taken out with the tracked vehicle. Not a lot going on in the morning, saw some birds, but nothing exciting. They came out and retrieved us for lunch, when we came back out, there was 50 yards of sand bar around our blind! They took us to another blind. Many more birdes that evening. We had 9 between 3 hunters. All redheads and scaup with a lone GW teal. We're booked for Nov 4th & 5th.

As stated, we need some good North winds and some colder weather. Hopefully it cools down and some fresh birds get blown in....soon.

Lee, Things are lookin' up for you! Looks like we have some north winds coming that are going to coinside with the next full moon. You should have some pretty good hunting to look forward to!

Good luck and be safe,

Todd

Looked over the Wigwam Bay area today and water is way down even without any wind while I was there. As you know the divers are calendar migrants and should be piling in. Cans and Bills left small ponds in ND 10 days ago.

Just for those that don't know Saginaw Bay is a large bay of Lake Huron. Distance around it's perimeter is about 105 miles as the crow flies. Lots of space for ducks and often hard to find the X. Not unusual at this time of year to see groups of birds of mixed varieties both puddlers and divers 5 miles off shore. One report from a commercial fisherman two years ago was a flock that was 5 miles long. Great layout hunting but play it very carefully for safety.

Do you think this storm helped or hurt for the weekend?

Lee, I think it definately helped. We shot white winged and surf scoters on the bay. You should have fun as long as the sun doesn't come out and there's some cloud cover.

Let us know how you do,

Todd
