Hunted about 50 miles south of Amarillo last year and had a ball. We went on a guided hunt using the guides stuffer crane decoys. We hunted in harvested peanut fields and had hundreds of cranes working our decoys. There were an estimated 1/4 million cranes in the area and you could see flocks from horizon to horizon. Not only was the hunt fun but the Sandhill Crane is one of the best eating birds you will ever hunt. Good luck on your hunt, I hope to get back again one day.

Great birds to hunt. Hunted them on the Esse Ranch down near Peggy as well as Beeville & Choke Canyon. Interestingly, they graze/move instead of merely stay in one place and feed. We found a few dozen feeding in one place near a draw and we stealthily stalked through the draw and when we got to where we'd "marked" them, they were about 100 yards away already.
Scout at night, locating them by their call and then ambush them as they go out to feed or come back.
Tons of fun and great eating.

We did a bunch of hunting from our cow blind. We had two of these that we shipped to Texas.
Used them on ducks, geese and sandhill crane. Gene in the blind.

The way we did did it was by patterning them. Wear Sneakers and run like hell. That was our basic plan. see where they are going and try to get under that flyway and find some kind of cover. We got a whole bunch that way. We tended to do better on foggy and cloudy days.
